storing 236 in my new garage

Jeff or some othe lucky 236 owner.

I am about to build a new detached two story 3 car garage.

In making the plans, I need to take into consideration that I WILL be purchasing a 236 by the end of the year.

So, I was hoping I could get some measurements from someone on PN that owns a 236 with trailer (OEM trailer of course)

I need the following measurements:

1. Outside fender well to fender well

2. Outside guide post to guide post

3. Tip of trailer tounge to tip of platform (I know the platform comes off)

4. Tip trailer tounge to stern w/o platform

5. I need to know if the tounge collapses and if so, how much length does it take off

6. Height from level ground to highest point of tower when folded down.

I know the above is a lot, but any help would be appreciated.

Otherwise, I'll be calling SECC and hoping someone is nice enough to go out to the back and take measurements.

I might be able to get those measurements for you tomorrow. We're going to look at a lake house today, so probably won't get over to the boat until tomorrow. I will say that the removal of the platform on the 236 is certainly a two-person job, and also I believe that the widest point is going to be the boat guides, not the fenders, but I might be wrong about that. This is on a Ram-Lin trailer.

I'm not positive, but I think the boat guides on my Boatmate are removable-don't know about Ram-Lin, but in a garage the extra 4 inches could make a big difference.

Thanks Jeff. I'm sure the guides are the widest point as well, but sometimes you just can't tell by looking.

Thanks for doing this for me. I really don't like the idea of taking off the platform every time I'm putting it in the garage. When I told my architect about my concerns he thought I was crazy.

I think anyone that would build a garage their boat wouldn't fit in is crazy.

I was told by my dealer that the Dorsey Trailer my boat will sit on has to have the guide poles removed to drive down the highway. So the trailer & boat is legal limit but with the guide poles it puts it over the legal limit for how wide a trailer can be. That distance is probably close to 9' wide.

I will guesstimate these for you and then Jeff can confirm when he has a chance
1. Outside fender well to fender well --- 8' 5"

2. Outside guide post to guide post ---- 9' 3"

3. Tip of trailer tounge to tip of platform (I know the platform comes off) ----28' 5" (+/- depending on trailer manufactuer)

4. Tip trailer tounge to stern w/o platform --- 26' 3"

5. I need to know if the tounge collapses and if so, how much length does it take off --- This is a trailer option you can order.. swing tongue or removable tongue and generally shortens the length of the trialer approx 36"

6. Height from level ground to highest point of tower when folded down. ---- This will depend on trailer manufacurer as well but I can tell they sit pretty high in the trailer. I plan on keep mine in rental storage that measures 10' wide 14" tall and 35' deep. If I ever buy a new house I will have a large workshop with at least the same dimensions. The last 5 years I spent putting the tower up and down on my 210 SANTE to squeeze it in the garage which was such a pain in the azz. The 236 will definatly not fit so I opted for the storage unit.

On my Ram-Lin, the guides are not removable. They're the guide pads, not poles like 210 trailers have.

You know, after looking at some pictures, it appears that maybe the fenders ARE the widest point. The widest point might even be the rubrail of the boat itself! Take a look.

Hey Jeff - Do those guide pads actually guide the boat when loading on steeper ramps??

It would seem with that long trailer you might have the chance, albeit a small one, to float over and hit the top of the guide pads when loading.

I would also be curious to know the height with the tower up.

I actually try to stay off of the pads when I load the boat. I don't want them scratching up the black gelcoat. They are really kind of wide. I can get my arm between the pad and the boat on each side. As far as I know, they don't go under the boat when loading. The 236 sits pretty deep in the back.

One thing's for sure. The 236 sits HIGH on the trailer. I don't have an exact number (yet), but I am 6'2" and you see how much taller it is than me.

Buxton told me that Dorsey made there trailers a little wider so the boat would "sit down" in the trailer more. My trailer will have the guide pads and removable guide poles.
