New Mastercraft Component - Looks nice!

Was surfing the TMC site and saw this new multi function display that is going to be available in their 2008's.

    It apparently does the following:

"The new center gauge is a color LCD for perfect pass, ballast tank levels, trim tab position if you have it, etc. You can also set up the display as you wish with 4 choices ... speed, hours, water temp, rpms, etc"

I would be interested if CC brought one out assuming its reliability was good - Malibu tried one of these a few years ago and withdrew it after only one year (I think!), although I think it had GPS incorporated as well.

No thanks you can't see anything in the sun! All-in-one gauge = more $$$ to replace.

Lets look back to 2000 model year. Everybody was hypeing the new teleflex LCD digital gauges. Now we know they were unreliable, hard to read, or impossible to read with polarized sunglasses. Too bad that move by CC, and others drove Airguide out of business. My opinion here, Mastercraft is more into selling bling, and promotion, than investing into real quality, that may not be apparent to the casual, or uninformed boat buyer.

That is a pretty strong statement! Hey, we love our Nautique, but you have to admit that Mastercraft makes a very nice, high-quality boat as well. Yes, their boats do have a bit more flash (sorry, I'm sick of the word bling) (i.e. billet aluminum parts, graphics, etc.), but it doesn't mean that these aren't quality boats. I would seriously consider a Mastercraft the next time it comes to upgrade our boat. Like you, that's just my opinion, and maybe I'm just one of those uninformed boat buyers Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

In terms of that "do it all" gauge, I have to say that I'm not a fan of it. Hollywood makes a good point that if one part of it goes out, the bill to have it fixed will probably be pretty steep. Also, it just looks like they tried to cram too many things into such a small display....not good when trying to focus on driving and your rider!

Not a big fan of the pod guages, and where is the chrome steering wheel in the pic?

              FYI....
Mastercraft bllast tank gauges do not work after brackish or salt water is run through them. Nothing like buying a $70,000 Xstar and the gauges wont work on the ballast and there is nothing you can do about it. The mastercraft dealer I talked to said "its just the way it is". Also from my experience with a Malibu, any thing chrome on the boat will pit within a year and then look extremely horrible with any brackish water use. This is form my experience. So far, my 07 210 is the best built quality boat I have owned.

All boat companies have issues, some more than others....some dealers are better than others as well. Correct Craft, Mastercraft, and Mailbu all make quality boats; if they didn't, they wouldn't be around for too long.

I'm glad that you are enjoying your new 210, but I think you'll need a little longer than 2 weeks to clearly determine the build quality of a boat.

I agree all boat companies have issues from time to time. It is then up to the dealer to make it a good service experiance or a poor service experiance. I purchased my boat more on the service aspect because of this.

Everyone that had ridden and drove my new 210 says thay it just feels like it is built better. The seats, throttle response, the way it rides through chop, the layout, the ergonomics, the electronics... So I would say that after 2 weeks I can really tell that this boat seems like it is better designed and better put together than my VLX. Just my opinion.

Totally understand about the feel....some things just feel like they're better built, and yes, you get that sense somewhat immediately.

I don't like my digital gauges, and don't know why you would want to put all the functions in one hard to read guage.

I want a bunch of analog gauges that I can glance at quickly to see what is going on.

Look at off shore racing boats. They have like 50 gauges, and that is because they need the info quick and don't have time to determine what a small digital gauge is telling them. Also analog gauges give you the rate of change at a glance where a digital numeric guage requires you to watch and see if the numbers are increasing or decreasing, and a what rate.

My boat is an SE by my choice. I like analog in a boat, the digital and relay operated functions are not my first choice. In truth I kind of miss the days of carburators, mechanical fuel pumps and basic gauge packages. My buddy just spent $350 on a marine specific fuel pump for the Indmar in his Malibu. In the old days a mechanical fuel pump would have worked.

The recent MasterCraft styling where they bolt on a billet plate wherever they can seems too edgy for my tastes, I don't like the styling of Hummers either, to each his own.

I agree that LCD readouts suck in sunlight. I am glad CC still has a more conservative look. In a few years all the crap that malibu and mastercraft are putting on their boats will be just as outdated as tribal graphics.

You do know that CC puts tribal graphics on their boats as well, they were just a little late to the game (i.e. beginning last year).
