    New Forum

We had a suggestion to add this forum for our members who have older Nautiques and those who don't upgrade every couple of years. Many of them felt their posts were too quickly filtered to the bottom of the General category due to the constant influx of new Nautique info.

This will be a trial forum. We were on the fence about it. We'll give it a test run. If it gains momentum, we'll run with it. If it never sees any action, we'll roll the posts into the "General Nautique" section when deemed appropriate and disband this forum.

The premise of this forum is intentionally vague...I didn't even want to attempt to specify what constituted "older" Nautiques. I'll leave it up to you to make it what you want it to be.

    RE: New Forum

Hey Luke. I would say that instead of calling it "old school", I would attach a year onto that.....like Pre-1990 or something.....??

      Old School

Being a newer member I have felt a bit out of place having an Old School boat (76') and looking at the site it appears most are newer - by newer I mean 1990's and up. Now I do realize that many newer boat owners were once owners of a classic and have traded up and maybe someday I will too - but for me this boat has too many memoroies to think about changing.

I like the term "Old School". I think its self explanitory.... nothing fancy, just a big motor, small boat and no real creature comforts.

I have posted a few questions recently and appreciate the feedback, but i've felt as though I can't really offer much to the newer generation Nautique owners in return. I have done pretty much everything on my boat, from major mechanical repairs to cosmetic upgrades (I just finished restoring the trailer). Hopefully the "Old School" forum will work. I'll do my part. I'll try to post some pictures of boat/trailer soon.

I frequent a Ford trucks forum (oil burner addict). Anyway, they have it seperated by engine years and by by model. Obviously their lines are a bit more diverse but it might be a good way to organize.

For instance, I have an F250, so I hit the general Superduty Forum which deals with alot of stuff like suspensions and tires and things that are somewhat particular to that model. There is a seperate forum for the 6.0l engine that also has the years. Helps out alot especially when you are having engine trouble vs what kind of tires people are using. Here's the link, it's a good forum and good folks who like to help out, alot like this place!!

        http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php

Just some food for thought, they have also stickied alot of good how to posts into a tech folder. I used the downloads section here more than once, the info helped me a great deal.

Luke, check out that site and see how things are broken up. It might give you some ideas. I like it a lot. The sticky post at the top are great also.

My only concern with setting up forums for individual engine types/boat types/years/etc. is that it would just further segment everyone and I feel the forums would lose some of their sense of community.

I agree! The other forums that were mentioned have tens of thousands of members, allowing for the granularity to be effective. We're a pretty small group here at just under 4,000 members, and if the categories were broken down any further, it would feel like there's an even smaller group.

                old school

Hey guys I just got signed up for planetnautique yesturday, and got my new 84 nautique last week and I was excited to find this web site, where I could get questions answered about my older boat, so I hope the old school boat owners respond in and this forum continues. baumanmt

                  RE: old school

I don't really see much activity in this "old school" area, your better bet would be www.correctcraftfan.com there are many more people on that site with older nauti's than on this site (at least that participate anyway).

                      RE: old school

I just purchased my first Nautique a week ago also !!! It's a 1984 SN 2001 . I'm getting ready to do alot of elbow work on it. carpet, gauges, paint etc. the biggest question im facing right now is that in nuetral the prop is still spinning and engauged. the velvet trany is only two years old . it runs and goes from forward to nuwt to rev fine but when in nuetral the shaft wants to stay spinning. the porevious owner says its done it for a long time even before the new trany. he also said that after it warms up it quits. i think he's nuts . im taking it down to our local marina to get there advise. any ideas??? also trying to find a replacement strainer bowl for the water intake. found one on the Vetus Marine web site for $95. is that the only one? also having trouble finding vintage decals and stuff, any ideas? thanks cant wait to chat and share ideas and upgrades .
