Close call on the water today!!!

So I was out today taking some killer sets with the friends, and im on my last pull. I am already riding right and the boat slows and slows and looks like it is loosing plain. Wierd. SO I just let go and swim in to the boat. When I get to the rear I notice that this thing is almost halfway under water!!!

As I dash into the boat I look into the engine bay to see rapidly rising water. I am freakin out so I rip up the seats to check the boat plug... BINGO, not there!!! Oh my god, my boat was close to capsizing!!! Anyways long story short. We drain all bags and use the sack pump to empty the bulk of the water. The plug made its way far in the rear engine compartment and we just couldnt get to it. So I plug the hole with the key float I found, but I had to hold it in. Yeah, the whole time from quinland to my house next to ski shores! It sucked.

Any idea to why a plug would just unscrew? It had alot of thread to work its way off. I have never heard of one just unscrewing. I have never touched my plugs, not in my old 210 or in this brand new 236....ANy ideas to why this would happen?

Luckily we made it back dry or you would have been seeing alot of me in the "Find a Pull" section hahaha.

See you guys on the water

Two Mastercraft Prostars and 3 Nautique 196's since 1987 and I have NEVER had a plug work its way loose. Nor has it happened to any of our club boats. Just doesn't happen.

Anytime the plug is out of my boat is is attached to the steering wheel with a cord keeper as a reminder.

      Very weird.

Yeah I found it to be very wierd too. I keep my boat on the lake I live on so I never take the plug out like people who trailer theirs. I had my 210 for 5 yrs and I never once touched the plug. I checked the boat to see if it had been tampered with, but it had no signs and sat infront of my face in front of my house on the dock for a week. Maybe it wasnt put in tight from the factory?

Sounds like you answered your own question. Check it every time from the factory or the dealer!!!! I asked them once if my plug was in the boat? Yes was the answer. It was but I found out the same way. It was in the cup holder!!!! Panic set in with the wife and kids in the boat. Kicked on the bilge pumps and pluged it in. Thankfully I was close to shore!!!

Agree, check it every time you get it back from the dealer.
Mine got a loose propeller nut after CC dealer repaired the propeller for the first owner, immediatly when i bought my 03SAN from the owner and took it home i checked al the vitals, before hitting the water. Also the fuelfilter o-ring was split causing a minor leak. Serviced by the CC dealer over 3 years.

I had one work it's way loose. I had dinged the prop and had to drive back quite a ways to the ramp. The vibration from the porp worked it out.

Other than a good vibration I can't think of any reason why it work itself out.

Doesn't sound like Lake Austin was too good today.
I was out on my 196 skiing. Water was perfect, best it's been all summer, I was about 8 turns in when I took a nasty fall and really tweaked my ankle. I made it to the drivers seat and drove for another hour for others. It was hard getting out of the boat.
                  Ankle is iced now.

We were by Mount Bonnell when it happened.

Good thing you had water bags that go neutral when submerged instead of the lead that some use!
