How Many Years Was the Pro Air Made?

From what I've been able to find, CC started making the Pro Air in 1999 but I haven't been able to find out the last year they were made. Anyone know the last year they were made, and is there a year that is preferable? Thanks.

Thanks for the info Hollywood. If anyone can provide some insight as to if there is a year that is preferable, or any years to avoid, that would be great. Thanks.

The biggest difference will be in 00' CC went to the key less dash and the next generation tower which was much improved. Other than that I believe most other changes where relatively subtle ones, I would not consider anything less than the GT-40 @ 310hp or the boat will be underpowered.

Thanks Quinner and Wake - after some further digging I was able to find more info on the Pro Air boats. Seems that people either love these Pro Airs, or they hate them. I've read some posts where people say that they are hard to re-sell, they were only made a couple of years so there really wasn't/isn't a demand for them, etc. The thing I did notice is that the detractors were generally people that had never owned one, so you have to really take their comments with the proverbial "grain of salt".

From what I have been able to find out, this seems to be the Nautique that fits the bill for me. I want a DD with an open bow, but want a boat that can throw a decent wake for boarding as well. I've driven both a DD and a V-drive and while the V-drive definitely has the better wake, I really like how a DD handles. And like I have told several forum members I'm not looking for a 4 foot wall of water (i.e the biggest, baddest wake on the lake), just something that throws a respectable wake.

Thanks for all of the info/advice. This forum has lots of very knowledgable and friendly members - it's nice to know that there are resources like this available to owners and fans.

              Hey Red,
sorry I'm late to answer your question. I have a 99 Pro Air, and I too researched these pretty closely.
              I have found the following attributes apply to the Pro Air hull;

              1. Good wakeboarding wake, improves with more weight.
              2. Fair slalom wake, not as good as the regular Air, way better than the V drive Super/SAN.
              3. Great handling.
              4. Perfect pass can be tricky to setup, however, I'm running it with about 1500 pounds of ballast, and after fiddling with the PP settings, it holds speed pretty consistently.
              5. built from '99-02 model years.

We love our boat as we board more than slalom, but I do get out occasionally on the slalom and go hard across the wakes, it's ok, not as nice as a friend's MC 197. I think these boats are a little under appreciated at the moment, but as prices hold for the older V drives, people will discover that these hulls are pretty versatile.

Jack - thanks very much for the info. We board about 95% of the time, with the remaining time split between my wife skiing (no slalom) and tubing (relax people, there are some folks that can't or don't want to wake board  ). This Pro Air really sounds like it is the one for us, and I appreciate the honest feedback.

I'd also appreciate any pictures that Pro Air owners can send. Just trying to get as much info as I can about them, and pictures really do help. I've got a Chaparral to sell this fall/next spring, and then I'll be in the market. Thanks again Jack.

There is also something about the crappy digital gauges in those years, but that would apply to all the CC models and not just Pro Airs.

In searching the forum pages, those gauges seem to be a bit of a sore spot for any of the Nautiques they were installed in. Looks like almost everyone has had a problem with them, but I guess the good news is that there are documented procedures on how to replace them with the Faria gauges. Another example of what makes this site so valuable.

I had a 99' Air, ordered with the TSC hull since slalom & footing were more important to me. You may want to consider the Air's as well, probably more available to choose from and may have better luck on resale as most boarders are really looking for V-Drives. Not sure how much better the boarding wake is but I do know the slalom wake is worse on the Pro, skied behind a buddies 99' Pro

Here is a pic of mine:

Thanks Quinner - from what I've been able to pick up in the forum, the Air is a DD but doesn't really throw as good of a wake as the Pro. I guess if you put enough weight in it, the wake can be improved. I'll definitely keep it in mind. From what I've seen, there aren't a lot of Pro Air boats for sale.

                          Red57Bird,

I don't think think you are going to notice a difference between the Pro and the Air, especially once weighted (for boarding). I believe Quinner was insinuating that you might miss out on a deal or a perfect boat for you by ruling out an Air model. My ballast setup is almost the exact same as Miljack's and his wake pictures look the same as mine. Thats no knock on the Pro Air, I think the best way to describe the difference between the two is that the Pro Air is the same as a comparable Air with maybe 50-100 lbs more ballast. I researched this quite a bit and ended up looking for either model with no preference. Oh yeah, we only wakeboard.

Thanks everyone for the replies and info. I'll definitely keep my options open, especially since I don't see too many Pro Air's for sale. For what we do, my guess is that either boat will work for what we need.
