weighting a 226 for surfing

No, I don't, and here's why:

First off, be sure to independently evaluate the geometry (actual volume) of your space -- it is my belief that the stated weight on some sacs include a "swell factor" as opposed to "neat line" volumes of the sac, let alone the actual space you have in mind to place the sac (confined surroundings like a storage locker). (Water is 62.4 lbs. per cu. foot.)

I considered the under seat integrated bow sac (W711) but instead chose the Center Locker Sac (W721) for two reasons: (1) I didn't want to lose the under seat storage which I use for anchor, anchor buddy and anchor rode along with 4 "Wally" style PFDs and 200# of pop products; and (2) having read opinions about boat handling (as well as my experience) with the weight way out on the nose vs. under the floor, decided that the ski locker area was better for me.

I have a "750" (W707) in aech of the two aft lockers plumbed in to the factory tanks, and the W721 to the belly tank.

With a few passengers, we have a great surf wave for adults.

For an idea of the size of our wave, the surfer in my Avatar stands about 4'-5"

How did you get the 721 sac in the front? I stuffed an integrated bow sac in the front and an 1100 lb sac in the starboard compartment. The integrated bow didn't take as much water as I hoped for. Also, I really miss the front storage for my anchor.

In the front? If you mean, how did i place the 721 (the center locker arrow sac) into the ski locker and forward, here's what I did: I spread it all out on the floor of the garage and rolled the left and right hand corners of the "arrow head" inward, so I ended up with the thing folded together along the lenghtwise center line of the sac. Then I stuffed it into to ski locker like it was a rolled up carpet and once it was in just rolled open the wings of the arrow sac. Let me know if I misunderstood your question.

You answered my question. When I open my locker I have a center ballast tank that fills the entire locker from side-to-side and forward. I can't find a way to access the space in-front of the locker, if any This only leaves me with the option of a bag on the seat or an integrated bow filler. Any other suggestions??

I have a 211 as well....I have a 1100 sac on the top of the port side walk through...port side and belly filled... and at least 3 people on the port side and the wave is about the same...I am thinking of adding about 250 pounds on the bow, do you think that will make a difference?

The weight in the bow will yield a longer wake. As for port side, what year is your 211? I believe 07 and back was right handed rotation which means the starboard side will yield the best wake for surfing.

Have a 2006 226 SAN. I find that learning how to surf on the starboard is much easier than trying fight the weights on the port side. This boat is anti-port side no matter what we have done.

I have an 04 so the starboard side is better, but I added a bow sac and it lengthened the wave. It was easier to surf and the speed was increased to 10.6. I had to tape up my vent to make sure no water came in!!!

I have found adding a 1100lb FatSac to the starboard locker and a 720 integrated bow sack has produced an ok wake. This is with myself, 270 in the driver's seat and two small kids in the bench on the port side (weight 70 lbs combined). I am still looking for a bigger and longer wake. We surf goofy (starboard). Any suggestions??

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2003 226LE (this means I dont have any stock ballast) also running stock prop. I would like to be able to produce a good clean long wave that I dont need to have extra people in the boat to produce. I bought a complete kit for Wake Makers (not happy with them at all) 2)750 in the rear on each side and a 350 in the center locker 3 ballest pup pumps. If I fill eveything up the wake is soft mushy and very short. neither side seems very good. Its surfable but but nice at all. Also is there a rope for wake surfing? I have been using a rope that we cut up but it seems too short for the 226, How long shoul;d the rope be? What am I doing worng?

I have been trying to get my wake right for a while now. I am running an 1100 lb sac in the starboard locker on top of the hard tank probably around 850-900 w/ stock tank or you should be able to squeeze all 1100 w/o stock tank in your way), stock belly (around 500) and a 400 lb sac on the front seat. We surf goofy and usually it's my Wife, our young kids and myself. We ride between 10.8 and 11.2 mph. Just trying to get a little longer now. I'll try to post pics when we get home. We're actually heading home from the lake now. Hope this helps. 226 info is hard to come by.

It sounds to me like you need more weight up front to get rid of the mush (or maybe more speed, but if you're going at least 10 or 11 it should clean up -- trial and error method with 1 mph adjustments helps). My set up is nearly the same total weight in rear as is forward (belly tank plus sac).

Maybe try the rear sac half full and see if that helps the ratio of rear to front weight. That size boat can easily go 1,000 in the rear, IMO, so maybe that's in your future to go without a lot of human ballast.

I am going to call Wake Makers today. They are the ones who suggested I buy the bags i did. I am going to see if they will swap out the starboard 750 for 1100 hopefully that will help.

I'm new to surfing. So my info is limited. A friend of mine got me into this and he has spent plenty time riding waves. Not to pmention he is from california. We both are goofy foot so only starboard surfing on my 226 so far. We load the starboard factory tank and then I have a 1100 pound fly high sac on top of it. Can't quite get the sac full but it's close. Nothing in the center and whoever is in the boat is on the starboard side. He says it makes a great wave. I'll add pics tomorrow. I have heard that most boats are better weighted on the side surfing only.
