    Larger Teak Platform

I'll be in the market for a 2000-2003 Air Nautique/Pro Air in the Spring of 08 and one thing that I have noticed is that the teak platform on these models is rather small compared to the newer composite platforms on newer boats. Would it be possible to make a custom teak platform for these older boats? I'm thinking something along the lines of the shape of the composite on an SV-211, with a rounded shape.

I know it might not be possible to make it as wide, but with a rounded shape it would at least extend back away from the transom a bit more and provide more surface area. The standard platforms seem to angle in from the sides and really makes for a narrow platform. I'm also curious if changing the shape/size of the platform could affect the wake any. I know that if you make it REALLY big it will, but I'm not talking about a drastic increase in size.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    RE: Larger Teak Platform

hey, very old thread i know, but if your still looking for an answer i may be able to help you. i have a 2000 SAN, we bought the bought used from a nautique dealer here in canada. he gave us the old teak platform (the one probably on your boat) because he replaced it with a larger (wider, extending away from the transom). the larger platform does not affect the wake at all, and it is much nicer for getting in and out as well as getting boards on. I dont have the dimensions of the platform now, its out at the cabin. i can give the dealer we bought from a call and ask him what boat he got the new platform from and let you know. sorry if you already have an answer!

I thought that the teak platforms looked small too, but to be honest they work just fine. Assuming you only have 1 person putting a board on at a time, the standard teak platform works just fine.

I agree that they appear to be small, but like Chexi, we've never had any issues with a person having enough room to put on their board.

I agree that they are large enough to put on a board, its just nice to have a little extra room to get in and out of the boat on and such. All it really comes down to is personal preference, the extra 4 or 5 inches in width isn't going to change much when it comes to practicality.

On a separate note, how do you guys clean and refinish your teak?
