Do threads always start getting more sour when the summer is over? We should do some kind of sociological study. There may be a direct correlation between winterizing and demeanor.

Thank goodness some of us are lucky enough to live in FL - no winterizing here - just another oil change and a spring suit2006 SANTE 210 (Pending Sale)

Hey Jodi,
This is Ken, with the blue 226 down the shore. I think time has also played a factor with the thinking. Remeber when we could jump our bikes over a plywood ramp at 10:00 at night and no one said anything!! Now if you don't wear a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads shin guards, neck brace, or sign a waiver, the kids can't even ride the bike in a straight line down the street. And someone is going to let you know your kid is in danger by not having all these items. Times have really changed. Good God, just tie the rope to something on the boat, put the kids up front behind the windows (if you have an open bow) and just tow SLOWLY. Going slow and safe is getting them home faster than paddling. MJB is right about this thread. Also, who the heck needs SEATOW on a local lake?? Coastal area yes...lake ...it better be a big freakin' lake!!
PS, don't say summer's over!!!! Christmas Day is the official "End of Medina Summer" Ha ha.
Later,
Ken

Stories like this from the texas fishing forum "I broke down last night on Joe Pool. My Gearcase took a dump right in front of the point between the two main arms of the lake as I was heading back to the ramp at Lloyd park. Well I dropped the trolling motor and off I went. I figured someone would give me a tow as there was quite a few boats on the lake. I could see a fisherman by himself out in the middle of the lake closer to the south shore and just west of Lynn creek, must be a roadbed there or something. I trolled my broke down rig within 75 yards of his boat which was a white skeeter, with red and sliver stripes, and a Yamaha motor. He was fishing a marker bouy with a carolina rig and did all he could to avoid making eye contact! I figure he felt like I didnt see him look at me he wouldnt have to help me. It was obvious I was broke down, motor out of the water trolling motor dragging me down the middle of the lake, sitting down on the front deck... A hole #1! I made it to the bridge and there was two guys in a silver triton with a red chevron and merc motor fishing the pilings. I could see them watching me as I approached the bridge. However, when I trolled within two pilings of the guys and They never looked at me! A hole # 2&3!! An hour and 15 minutes had passed and I made it to the power lines in front of Lloyd park cove. My troller was getting weak but I had enough juice to make it in. A fisherman was coming out of the cove with his wife and kid he was coming toward me just on top. As he passed me he quickly turned sharply away from me and made a circle straight back at me. Finally somone was at least going to ask if I needed help.....NOPE! his kid lost his hat, they picked it up and passed me less than 30 yards away, and guess what the kid and wife waved but A hole #4 didnt even look at me. Of course he was driving and might be obliged to help if he saw me wave him down.....I apologize to the good people that would take the time to stop and help someone on the lake it is incredible to me that some people are so inconsiderate of fellow fishermen. I have broken down 3 times all at Joe Pool over the last year due to electrical problems with a stealth charger and never has anyone stopped and asked me if I needed help. The way I figure it is that the people that dont stop to help have never been broken down on the lake.....Karma boys! Karma!!you will get yours..... If A hole #'s 1-4 happen to read this I was in the White Gambler with a 250XS. Come say Hi next time...... "2006 SANTE 210 (Pending Sale)

RE: are you kidding me
an article over 10 years ago stated that a world class slalom skier placed a load of appproximately 1400 lbs on the ski pylon of a tournament boat when they were on edge coming through the middle. I am hard pressed to think that someone would even come close to approaching that kind of load towing someone in if they had a problem. I have towed numerous times on my pylon in the 15 years I have had a tournament boat and can't believe someone would hesitate to render assistance.

Hey AuMDLST,
Were these other boats fishing in a tourney? Maybe that's why they kinda gave you the cold sholuder. They didn't wan't to commit an hour or so out of their day to loose fishing time?? Who knows. I was on Amistad fishing a tourament a few years back, about a mile from the ramp. Big motor on the Champion gave out, and we started back on the trolling motor. There was about 1 hour left before weigh-in. It only took about three boats that passed to get a pull. They were in the same tourney but did not have fish to weight in. They pulled us all the way back. Refused gas money. I'm thinking maybe the first couple of boats had money in the well and it was just a judgement call on their part that someone else would be along to pull us in. I've been on both ends of that rope several times.
Have a safe weedend.

lol, this is rediculous.....
if u don't help a stranded boater, ur a * plain and simple............. as for towing, if u don't like the idea of tying off to sumthin then just hold the rope with ur hands....... it doesn't require very much effort to slowly pull a boat through the water. i probably wouldn't tie off to my stern light, but thats about the only place i can think of that is too weak to tow a boat.......

RE: Tow w/ a 07 210?
Been there, done that, on both ends. I would have no problem towing a reasonable sized boat with the pylon. Make sure you have a rope strong enough and go slow, try to keep the wallys away from you. Ran into some "younger" fellows at Lake Norris who flagged us down. Seems that they had their wakeboard rope wrapped around the prop. Loaned them the knife I keep on board, one of them asked why I had a knife. I replied "I have never needed it, but knew it would come in handy some day".
Doesn't matter if you have a 50k boat or a 500 boat, being on the water carries some responsibilities.
Moral is, if someone needs help on the water, do what you can. Might be you next time.

RE: are you kidding me
if you must tow another boat with a nautique use the rear lift ring as it is designed to hold the full weight of the boat, and yes i know it is not recommended but that is the strongest point of the boat from which you could tow from., the cleats are only in the fiberglass and do not have the hard point the lift rings do.
using reasonable care and common sense you shouldnt have any problems.
