    2002 Ski Nautique RPM question

    Hi all,

I've got a peculiar question for you all - maybe somebody can help me

I have been skiing behind a friend's 2002 Ski Nautique 196 for years now, but unfortunately the digital mph gauge died in 2003 and ever since I do not have much idea of what speeds I have been skiing at. I'll get my answer eventually as he's probably getting a new boat next year, but I don't want to go into the winter still wondering :P

I am far from tournament level waterskiing...I ski at only 22 off and a speed of 3400-3500 rpm, but I can feel the improvement each year, and after this season I have just been wondering, what speed are we doing?

I would be grateful if anyone with the same boat could tell me what speed it is doing at around 3400-3500 rpm.

The boat is a equipped with a 310 hp engine (I believe 5.7 L), and the stock prop for that year's model (don't remember blade count).

    Thank you very much.

RE: 2002 Ski Nautique RPM question

I just traded my 02 for an 07. If it was a Ski Nautique, not an SE, it had Teleflex digital gauges. The rpm's would vary about 500 rpm compared to the speedo. I'm guessing you were running between 33 and 34 mph.

If it was a 5.7L, thats 330 hp. The prop was 12.5x15.5 4 blade. Hope this helps!!

    Regards to ALL!!

RE: 2002 Ski Nautique RPM question

The boat is a Ski Nautique and its engine is definitely 310 hp. Engine capacity is 5 point something L...It's a V-8 Ford engine...5.8 L I think then. 5.7 is the 330 hp Excalibur one indeed - his 2004 Air 216 is equipped with that one...but the SN feels far more "explosive" despite the lower hp rating

So, 33-34 mph it is. Better than I expected. Thank you very very much!

Now if only I could get to own a SN 196 one day 8-)
