I think it was two years ago that two teenage boys on my lake, both very capable swimmers, were sitting on the transom of a ski boat while the boat was at headway speed. Suddenly without any warning, one boy fell off into the water. The second didn't realize the severity of the situation and hesitated before jumping in after his friend. But it was too late. Without a life vest, and lungs filled with CO2, the boy sank quickly.

When I sit on the back of my boat (with slotted swim platform) to hold a rope for a child skier, I wear a life vest.

that's a good idea to wear a life vest when on the platform. i just turn the boat off.

Both are correct. So the next question is when did they go to the solid platform?

The 90 has a slotted teak platform with a solid piece of plastic (or some other material) under it.

Do you consider '04 DD models to have a 'curved' shape to the transom? Doesn't look so to me. I suppose the solid platform makes up for that though.

They are curved in two dimensions: 6" radius from the center point of the transom to port and 2" from top of swim platform to the top of the transom.
