    Securing a 216 to a dock

I am a soon to be owner of a 2006 216 and realized that CC does not use 2 lift hooks on the stern (like MC) and need to secure the boat to my dock. I presently have a horseshoe shaped dock and leave a line attached to it (with a clip) to secure the bow and have stern lines attached to the lift hooks on the boat. Other than adding stern cleats which would interfere with the cover, how do you folks secure your boats?

Also, is there anywhere to tie up a stern bumper (other than a stern cleat) when docking at a stationary dock? I am wondering if you could somehow put a protective cover on a rope and use the handles by the rear seat. I hate the thought of drilling into the hull.

The grab handles in the back work well. But that still interfers with the cover. I'd say have your cover modified to accomodate pop out cleats or the grab handles.

Did you get the boat with the optional pull-out cletes? those may be the best thing you can get from the factory on these boats... i cant think of a more used option on ours.. Also, they dont always interfere with the cover. Find a local guy that can customize your cover around the cletes...

this is how we tied up the boat last year... its not our dock so we cant move the whips exactly where we want them, so i know they're not perfect, but my same logic would apply: two relatively taught (sp?) whips on the lifting rings (it keeps the boat straight more in wind and big rollers if the whips are attached to teh rings, not cletes), & two relatively short bungees on the cletes... the blue rope on the dock is just there to get in the way...

The boat is used and was originally purchased with 2 cletes. I guess I am going to have to add 2 more to the stern. They will help with bumpers as well. I will have the cover customized to allow for it to be tied up to my dock which is a horseshoe. The boat sits between the two piers so it never touches wither side. It was sure nice to use the transom mounted lift rings on the MC. They were mounted just below the platform and easy to access with or without the cover on the boat.

        Thanks for the insight.

Use the center lifting ring on the stern of the boat. You could use one line, on one side, and a stretchy line on the other side.

you have one of the best dock setups--no need for whips... If you have cletes, or will have cletes, on your boat where u see them on ours, you should have no problem. If i were you, I'd mount oversized bumpers high on the dock so that they are most effecftive when docking in winds, and leave the boat cletes for preset-length ropes to the dock. 4 bumbers, 4 preset lines, bam ur done... i'd even recomend backing in if you're comfortable in reverse
