I have a question about towers. I hit a large bird w/ mine last weekend, going down the road. He hit hard enough he broke the mount for the tower speaker. Now the question: When I stand infront of the boat on the trailer looking at the front bar of the tower I can see more of the right side back bar then on the left. ( If that makes since.), Like about 2 in. or so differance....Is that normal or is my tower bent? Trying to detrmine if I should call the Insurance for it. I've never payed that much attention to the towers to know.

RE: tower ?
I'm not sure which tower you have, but it should be the same on both sides. I would contact your insurance company and have it repaired during the off season. If you leave it like it is, you may have an unusual amount of squeaking and wear. I have noticed when I have more boards on one side of my tower than the other, it makes a lot more noise than when it is balanced. Just my opinion.

RE: tower ?
Hey Thanks, Thats what I was thinking. I didn't know if that part bent would mess up the alignment of the whole thing, and I didn't know if all towers had some miss alignments, when something happens you start noticing stuff, and I didn't know if it was already like that... It's a 2nd Gen. Tower on a 2003 SAN.

That must have been a big bird. Did you take him home and cook him for supper?
I see about that much differnce on both rear bars on my tower. But then again I have the second gen tower on a 2000 SAN. I know they changed the geometry up a bit from 2000 to 03.

Yeah it was a really big bird. When I got home the speaker, the Big bird and a small bird were all laying in the floor of the boat, I couldn't believe it. But yeah thats what I was wanting to know if anyone else noticed if there towers had some differances in them. It may be normal and I'm just being anal.

Towers are hand made, so differences are there for sure. More or less. Speaker got most of the impact.
Better check the gelcoat at the tower mounting area, the gelcoat check should be done in different light and angle situations. Fresh gelcoat cracks are difficult to spot.

Was the bird 6 foot tall, yellow, and talking to a garbage can? If yes, Bert and Ernie are going to be very upset at you!!! As well as the rest of the Sesame Crew, and thats a big Gang!!
