RE: Excal or ZR6
I agree, I have a ZR6 in mine and I am very impressed by it. You will get everything you want out of it including resale. The use more gas theory is lame if you ask me. I think if you have a full boat and an excal you will have to hammer it more than you would with the ZR6 to get the same performance results. I do not know for sure but I would be surprised if the gas usage is that much of a difference between the two. Just my opinion.

RE: Excal or ZR6
I had the Excalibur in my '03 210, and it was ok. The ZR6 is certainly the way to go though. My '07 236 had the ZR6, and I just placed my order for my '08 230 and got the ZR6 again this year.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. RE: Excal or ZR6
If money is not an issue, I'd go with the ZR6 with the same reasons as stated above.Boat - 2005 Team 226 -ZR6 - Several Acme Prop's (1234, 644, 1160) Depending on occassion
Tow Rig - 2008 Chevy Silverado - Duramax Diesel - Crew Cab

order the zr6 if a) you have cash to spare or b) you are a barefooter. there is a reason that PCM shows you HP numbers but will not release TQ numbers...because they are not significantly differenty, at least at wakeboarding speed. all the "my malibu with the ..." vs the "my CC with the..." posts are irrelevant, they are apples to oranges. check these threads:

i know it is not apples to apples, but i have been in bigger boats with more weight AND THE ONES WITH THE CORRECT PROP FOR TASK AT HAND always performed awesome from 290 HP on up. i wish i had a the excal in my 220 and the extra zr6 cash to pay for the upgraded prop i needed anyways and to pay for more fuel....

I'll throw my vote in for the Zr6. Great engine, lots more power (my 6th one is on the way, had an Excaliber first). Closed cooling will be a great thing for the engine long term and it has a side benefit of letting the heater put out more and steadier heat, even at idle. Also much quicker to winterize. As for the prop discussion, the 196 comes propped perfectly on either engine. The wakeboard boats are probably propped perfectly for their designed weight rating. If they are overloaded, as any boat it would require a drop in pitch to perform with either engine.
