1985 Barefoot Nautique - Cracked Block! Ugggghhh

I bought a 1985 Barefoot Nautique that I'm restoring. I bought it with a cracked block and got a great deal on the boat.

I know it is a Gen IV 454 block but where can I find a new marine block?

    Can I use a Gen V 454 marine engine?

also, I found a 427 marine motor that will fit but it's a standard rotation. Would that be a huge problem to convert?

Any help and/or direction is appreciated.

Kurt You may find more help on www.correctcraftfan.com although alot of us are on both. Changing to reverse rotation won't be worth it as you need a cam, seals, distributor and assorted other parts. My understanding is that an automotive block is the same as the marine. It is the other parts that marinize it. I would talk to the people at Discount inboard marine www. Skidim.com. They are really helpful. As for the Gen iV versus GenV I do not know.

Ask your local CC dealer. There are engine rebuilders who do marine engines. I just did the same thing last year. It ended up being a bit over $4 grand, including block (about $3100) for a Gen IV 454 and in/out labor. The one cool thing is that you can have them do new camshafts - I asked for more torque so I think they did a truck cam instead. I lost top speed (about 5 mph) in favor of more torque.

Here is a link to a PREMIUM rebuilder who also does marine. You can probably get a short block from them already done and just pay the core on the block.

You can probably get your heads R&R'd locally.
