    Boat show observations

Just returned from our anual visit to the boat show and thought I'd share some random thoughts after looking over the offerings.

2008- CC 210=$71k boat show price (!!) including trailer, Excalibur engine
this boat had the Titan tower, but no swivel racks, standard factory speakers. Is it just me or is this a ton of money for a 21' wake boat?
They did have a 210 show special of $55k w/trailer, but couldn't tell how it was optioned up.

2008- CC220=$66k BSP, including trailer, Excal, etc..al. tower

2008- CC236=$89K BSP, wow. This is a huge boat. Tons of room, well executed, nothing too fancy, but nice details everywhere. Lots of storage in this boat, no sign of a ballast tank. CC has beefy engine "room" walls so you can load the storage lockers up w/ ballast if you want.

Titan towers look pretty cool in person, and matches well with the full throttle pkg's chrome windshield trim. Titan tower is VERY stout, but so is the CC alum. version. New spinner racks have push button release, and work very well. They might consider lengthening the plate the fingers mount to, so that it's easier to swing the thing back into the boat. Swivel feels very solid and smooth.

    Now onto the other manufacturer's

MC- 40th anniversary Xstar-$89k BSP, $101K list(!!!!) this was the metal flake red and black argyle boat. It's actually better looking in person.

MC X35- new model $77k BSP w/350hp MCX engine. This boat is huge! Sink and fridge, but my wife said wow! It's a beautiful boat. Tons of room, well executed.

CC listen to this!- MC racks are the absolute best in the biz!! I think it's the whole package of their swivel and clamping rack fingers that make it a nice setup. The MC rack setup makes the swivel/spinner racks on the CC look wimpy, plus no bungees to mess with all the time.

MC CSX-this is a cool boat, very nice details and interesting seating layout. Rumored to have a very good wakeboard wake. $$$

Supra-sat in a 22SSV, it was a nicely laid out boat, but is lacking in finish details of the CC or MC. =$59k BSP (I think, mebbe it was $65k BSP)this with std. engine.

TONS of boats with wake towers, Chapparral, Cobalt, Regal, Sea Ray, and btw all of these manuf. had "wake" series boats. Most are sticker jobs, but Chapparral has spent some design time on their version.

Malibu-Saw the vette boat, it's cool! The one I saw was metallic orange, LS7 engine, or so it said on the engine cover. They also had a PINK 23' LSV, the women were all drooling over that boat.

all for now, fire at will....

    RE: Boat show observations

i dont know about the rest, as im waiting for the boat show to come to Detroit this coming week, but I will vouch for MC's board racks, the swivel/pullclamp design is pretty sweet. But it's still on an MC... Honestly, as much as i wakeboard & really don't ski, the one boat i really want to look at is the 196, still the best looking boat out there, i cant stand most of the new wake boats that look like IO's...

I totally agree. I have thought that ever since I saw them, and I wish CC would move to a similar setup. I really like the MC board racks.

My opinion here. Push sideways on the tower from those "M" boats. even with very nice board racks, you will notice in spite of the name on the tower, it flexes quite a bit.

Chances are you will not find a closed bow boat from CC or anybody elelse at a boat show. The people who would buy a closed bow tournament tow boat already know what the best boat is. No need to display it at a boat show.
The boat show crowd is more easily impressed by shiny colors, many cup holders, "O look, it has a built in trash can holder!", and an engine and hull styled to look like a popular sports car.

Daniels I was at the knoxville BS and heard a lady say that to the dealer. O' it has a trash can. I'm thinking she is buying an 85K boat for the trash can. She did have a liter of kids, so might have needed one.

The Vette boat...Pff! Sorry, but isn't that the most useless waste of 100K? I mean, you can't board or ski seriously behind it. No tower, V-Drive. And the look: kinda reminds me of those old movie clips you see from the 60's of amphibious convertibles. Oh, and it can reach a whopping 60mph. Woopee-doo-wow! Someone looking for speed will normally buy a pimped-up whatchamacallit cigarette boat, no? Like, get serious guys.

By the way, I heard Moomba is working on the AMC Gremlin boat.

                RE: Re: Boat show observations

Daniel, yeah that is a good point, a large majority of the crowd at these shows are pretty fickle. But there was a 196 there last year, as well as i believe 4 of the wake boats (dont remember which), so im holding out hope i get to see/drool over, the long lost child of my '78SN, ie. 08SN...
