    gt-40 vs. 330xcal

just curious what everyones thoughts were on the older gt-40's compared to the 330 excaliburs in the newer boats.i know the horsepower difference is very minimal(20),but was wondering about power delivery, efficiency, relibility, etc. on the newer motors

Dealer here says the GT-40 is a better motor, just more torque I guess.
If you don\'t do it today, you will be one day older when you do!!

Reliability is the same, GT-40 has more torque and never seems to stop trying on the top end

My opinion. The GT-40 has greater midrange torque, and its exhaust note just sounds better. The GM engine is a thinwall casting, and if you let it sit without draining the water in cold weather, you stand a greater chance of cracking something.
The GM engine stores its operational hours in the engine computer, the Ford engine does not.
The GM engine has a higher amp alternator, I think.
The greatest disadvantage of the Ford motor is that they are no longer being made, so you cannot get a new boat with one.

The GT40 is a very strong motor. It is faster than the Excal out of the hole. Top end advantage would probably go to the Excal, but not by much (~1mph). Ive lined up against a '02 GT40 and a '03 Excal (both TSC2 196's). If given the choice, Id probably opt for the GT40, but theyre both great engines.

thanks for all the input.i,ve found a deal on a newer ntq.and am just trying to decide if its worth it.think i'm just gonna stick with what i got(98 350 hrs).not to mention all my friends also have the gt-40 as well, and some have over 1000hrs and still runnin' strong.so they swear by em' and are also pretty familiar with them mechanically. please excuse my inexperience,we're all abunch of poorsaps up here in the mountains and have never been lucky enough to ride in one of the newer ntqs. with a xcal

              If I could trade my 330 EX for a GT-40 I would.

GT-40 is what i have and i absoultley am very happy with it and it seems to have more torque than the excalibur, my buddy has a 06 220TE with the ZR6 and i smoked him out of the hole and kept up with him all throughout the race
