    Aerator pumps

i am going to be putting in a ballast system in my boat and realize that the aerator pump will let water through them if the sea **** is on, but what if you run the hose real high and then back to the sac, will it still fill the bag??

Install a check valve if you don't want to turn off the intake while underway, otherwise you may have water sucked back out, depending on the intake being scooped or not.

i think i am going to put my thru hulls in the transom so there would be no pressure on the pumps when driving, hope fully it will work. i want to stay away from the water puppies so my outlet can be out the side of the boat so i know when the bags are empty. Do check valves restrict the flow much?

Swing check valves have little if any restriction. Spring check valves do restrict flow. If in doubt about them slowing flow, go up a size from your tubing. What boat do you have and what is your rough layout of your plumbing?

i have a 01 SAN, i am planning on having 4- 1 1/4 thru hull in the transom to hooked to 4 tsunami 1200's, each pump to fill each bag. 2 750's in the rear, 1 rear seat sac in the locker, and an integrated bow sac. Then 4 drain pumps that pump out the same thru hulls as the vents (vent hoses will have check valves). i was thinking that if i put the intakes in the transom then that would elimate any pressure when planed out.. when the boat is just sitting in the water do you think that there would be enough pressure to fill the bags with out the pump on? If they do then it seems like all of us could have systems like the calabrias... 2 three in thru hulls could fill up anything below the water line super fast.

That seems like it should work as long as you have the intake tubing loop high and create an "airlock". That sure is a lot of 1 1/4 thru hulls. You could easily get by with 1" as the Tsunami 1200 ID is closer to 15/16". Just make sure your fittings and valves are full port (true to size). I would also leave off the elbow that comes with the pumps as it is restrictive as well. I doubt it will fill without the pumps running (sitting still) unless you get it started with the pumps first.

I'm guessing you already know that you won't be able to fill above idle speed.

i am starting to lean towards the water puppies, but if i do that, i want to leave the tanks in (plumb bags to tanks) so i dont have to check when they are empty, I would love the rip the tanks out though. This decision has been killing me for the last few weeks. Do you think that the tsunami pumps would fill considerably faster than the water puppies? Does anyone know the exact fill for one 750 fat sac using a water puppy. I am even considedering taking the tanks out and using the water puppies to fill and tsunami's to drain. It would just be nice to have the tanks out of the way for working on the boat and still having some sort of indicator that they are empty (drains out the side stopping). This way i could also sell my whole factoy balast system to help fund the custom one. Tanks, senders, gauges, pumps, air vent valves.... how much do you think i could even get for all of it?

Toyota, check my link on the other recent thread, and Wakefun's. I think between the two of us we have a combination of what you want. Get rid of the tanks, for sure. The Jabsco pumps are their own check valves, just use the old vent lines as vent lines.

btw 7-8minutes to fill the 750's, less to drain them
