V Drive Slow Leak?

So this happened last summer, I was out on my 226 and the V Drive light came on at 2200 RPM which it never does. Short of the long was that the V Drive oil was low so when I put it into storage I had the marina look for a leak. They reported that no leak could be found. Has anyone else had a problem similar? It took 3 summers before this happened and I have never put oil in the V Drive prior. Thoughts?

The boat has approx 90 hours on it

BTW, the correct oil was put in and I used the boat for the next four weekends without incident before it went to storage.

No idea yet. The boat is in storage until May but based on posts I found during a search (which I should have done prior to posting) it sounds like many others have had this problem. Most of them have found the leak because a bolt is loose on the V-Drive or the paper bag gasket that comes from the factory is leaking. As I understand most have replaced this gasket with true gasket material and the problem has been resolved.

I have never pulled the boat apart so this should be interesting. Anyone have an idea how to get the back seat and part of a 226 floor up? The V-Drive is not exactly accessible from what I remember when I was digging around there this summer.

Try tightening the bolts first. I was able to reduce the oil leak significantly without pulling the v-drive. I would fear more problems coming form a v-drive removal.

Thanks, I will give that a shot. The drip now is so slow (3 seasons to leak all oil out) that I will probably just keep an eye on it and not remove the vdrive until it gets worse.

Update... The slow leak turned into a big leak this year, lost most of the oil every 2 hours. Took it to the dealer (third time for this issue) and they finally pulled the vdrive and put a seal kit on it. Got it back and still have the red light turn on. Finally figured out that each time I put it in reverse the dipstick must pop-up a bit and leak pressure causing the light to go on.

Need to find a new gasket to seal the dipstick since I am right now too cheap to pay 30 dollars for a new one...

Any thoughts on warranty? I bought the boat new and the warranty card was filled out in April 2005; the 5 years may be up but not much. I wrote an email to PCM but have not received a response yet. Anyone have a good number to call?

Go directly to Correct Craft. The v-drive is a Walters, not sure this is supplied by PCM. In any case, your warranty is covered by CC, not PCM.
