I am still trying to figure out if anyone has attempted to add a skeg to their nautique. I called Natique Way in Houston and didn't get a definite answer from their shop guys. He mentioned that he doesn't see why it couldn't be done but he has doesn't know that they have ever actually done it. I have a '92 BFN and I wanted to added a second tracking fin to it. I just wanted to know of any problems or any added advice in doing this. The only thing I was worried about was that the factory installed skeg is recessed into the hull a little, but the guys at Nautique Way didn't think it would be a problem mounting it to the flat spot in front of the other fin. He mentioned that some boat makers bolt them directly to the hull from the factory. Any advice or thoughts would be great since we are on the brink of getting some warm (enough) weather to ride in. Thanks.

RE: Adding a Tracking Fin (skeg)
Why do you want to add skeg? Power turns? I guess what I would do is take the measurements of the fin locations off of a non-barefoot nautique from '92 and add two skegs, not one. Take the measurements, skegs, and boat to a good fiberglass guy and have him recess the skegs to match the orignal or at least make the the recesses and you can install them yourself. Seems like a lot of work for a little bit more tracking IMO.How 'bout a little reverse action...

RE: Adding a Tracking Fin (skeg)
I've just been forewarned about the lack of handling when you add weight to an excel hull......not really into the power turns (except during the occasional booze cruise) but a skeg should only cost me an extra $100 or less and install shouldn't be back if they just bolt to the hull without the seemingly unnecessary recession......just wanted to check with everyone on here since I've seen a lot of great advice in so many of the other threads.
This thread is a little redundant but I wanted to get some new exposure to hopefully get some ideas on the matter.....here is the original thread that was started a while back.

RE: Adding a Tracking Fin (skeg)
Gotcha, makes a little more sense now. I didn't realize you were weighing down you BFN. I still would personally match the fins up with the Excel and recess them properly, but maybe that's just me. Everything would probably be fine if you just bolted them through, if it doesn't you can always recess it later. How 'bout a little reverse action...
