    2015 SAN 230 piggyback ballast upgrade

    Just wondering if you can upgrade the pro 400's in the back to 750's and KEEP the storage trays on a 2015 SAN 230? Got in touch with Wakemakers and they were not sure of the measurement. Has anyone done this or have thoughts (I think there was another thread on here but I can't seem to find it)

    I have a 2014 230 with rear bags swapped to 750s and originally I tried keeping the trays in. It is close but doesn't quite fit. The trays lift up a little when the bags are full. The compartment hatches will still close, but it puts too much pressure on the engine dividers. I took the trays out after seeing that it was bending the dividers, and to be honest I haven't missed the trays at all.

        BTW... you will love the 750s in there! huge difference vs the pro ballast.....

          What bags are you using? Wakemakers custom? Sumo? Measurements? Additionally, just a general question, when installing new bags is it important to make sure the new bags vent OK to the tank so the pump won't collapse/crack the built in ballasts? Thinking this is an easy DIY job I can do myself since the pro ballast are already plumbed, BUT dont want to screw up and cause more problems down the road.

            I have the fly high 20x20x48 750's that are real common but you should be able to use sumo bags as well. I bought from wake makers and it was an easy install. I bought their divider reinforcement kit as well which adds 3 bars to each engine divider for additional strength. I installed those dividers at the same time as when I stopped using the trays, so I don't know if the reinforcement is needed or not to keep the dividers from buckling if you always keep the trays out but regardless it's rock solid now. I also added the fly high integrated bow sac but I only use that extra bow weight for wake boarding, not surfing.

              Wakemakers sells a 50Lx25Wx15H....wonder if the extra 5" in width will still fit? Thoughts?

                If not vented properly it will collapse the hard tank when draining for sure. There has been several fairly fail proof designs mentioned on here, just not sure where exactly. Dealer installed mine or I would try to help you out more.

                  I have a '14 and venting is not a problem. I actually put a fairly light weight clear hose on the overflow of the bag between the check valve and the hard tank because it really doesn't do much anyway. Both the hard tanks and bags fill at the same time vs the old way of filling the tank then bag like the older style systems.

                  Oh, BTW.... make sure you have pins to keep the divider in place. I had to add one to make sure it didnt pop out the bottom rail and therefore getting deformed.

                    One more thing.... have a look at your fiberglass in the back of the lockers (top, near vents). Mine was very rough with some sharp spots so I had to add some self adhering foam pads to keep bags from rubbing when full. I used sumo sacs and they fit quite well.

                        If that's the case, I wonder if having custom sacks which hold even more weight would be a good idea. I don't care about the trays either. I'm about to order some sacks and I can't decide if I should go bigger. I would assume the reinforcement kit would be a must if I go bigger than 750's.

                          You just have to watch that the bag isn't too big that it messes with the overflow hose that connects to your hard tank.

                            Okay so are you saying that the bag needs to be lower than the overflow from the hard tank? One thing I'm concerned about is the flexibility of the input hose to the bag. Nautique did a good job on the length of the stock hose. It doesn't kink or bind whether the sack is full or empty. Now that I'm considering larger ballast sacks, I'm thinking I'm gonna need more flexible hoses that will move with the larger extremes of up and down motion as the sacks expand and contract at greater amounts. Those stock hoses are like crazy stiff.

                              I changed mine and just put some clear PVC hose. I made it as short as possible so that it just holds the top of the bag up when completely empty. Honestly, cramming a slightly bigger bag in there may not be worth it. The 750s fit in there pretty well. Not worth ruining anything to gain an extra 50lbs or so IMHO....
