Bubble line in the surf wave on a 18 230

Hey All,

Wanted to ask about a bubble line that I'm getting in my surf wave. Does this happen on all 230s? Messing around with the NSS and hydrogate in all positions and can't get it to go away. I don't see it on on other boats (but lets be fair, you're the most critical on your own stuff) but wanted to ask. This is a snap from a video, I'll upload them later tonight.

From my experiences it’s too much weight in the rear or the surfing side of the boat. Try messing with a weight a little bit. It’s not just a 230 thing...it’s there on G’s as well.

If you added ONLY ballast to the rear...you will be pleasantly surprised by adding additional ballast to the bow...my experience found success by adding about 250-300 pounds...However many ponds added to the rear, add 25% of that to the front. It’s not an exact science but it sensible to consider weighing the boat down proportionately the original design...And its not a “230 thing” given the proper set up, I believe a 230 is every bit as good as any...and better than most!

Sorry, I should have mentioned had 200 lbs of lead in the front. Right at the tip of the bow. I’ve got 300 more lbs to mess around with.

That bubble line is like a marker of sorts. I don’t think it changes the wake shape. I actually don’t mind it at all on mine. It helps when you’re at a weird sun angle-if that makes sense.

Have four or five adults join you for a ride. Fill the gas tank (low fuel is often a cause for poor wake quality). Fill all ballast and set NSS 0, NCRS 3. Run at 11.2 mph. Have the adults all sit in the rear, then move 2 to the front, experiment with their seating position forward and aft, starboard and port to see where you need to add ballast to produce a clean wave.. You should be able to produce a clean perfect wave with proper setup. You spent a good amount on the boat, don't settle for a garbage wave. All the best

Just watched a few surf videos from last year behind my 2017 230. In some of the videos I too had the “bubble line”. Boat surfed great, you have nothing to worry about.

I have a 2015 230 and while I’m the one surfing, I see a similar bubble line but it appears to be deeper and I’m not sure I see riding up the wave looking back from the boat. Anyway, I always assumed it was the exhaust gases riding through the wave after being propelled back through the prop wash from the surf pipe. Hasn’t ever seemed to affect anything. It’s actually kind of mesmerizing to watch and like someone else said, somewhat of a marker for the wave location and shape while surfing.
