I have had a 2017 GS with the ZR4 engine and a 2018 GS with the H6 engine and have used the boats almost always between 4,500 - 5,000 feet. At times, less or more feet. The H6 is a much better engine because it is more quite inside the boat, has a wonderful power band, and is very fuel efficient. I know that the direct injection in the H6 is part of the reason. I have been out in a 2021 G23 with the stock ZZ6 (new version of the H6) at 4,600 feet and found that engine to be significantly louder inside the boat. I am soon to get a G23 and am considering the ZR 7 engine (Multi-port) upgrade and would love to hear if any of you have any input on this engine's performance, meaning how does it compare to the ZZ6 with respect to noise, fuel efficiency and power band. I will often have to drive this boat with no ballast at speed and it will be used for all sports not just wake surf, albeit mostly wake surf. If the ZR7 is as much an upgrade over the ZZ6 in the G23 as the H6 was in my GS22, I may do it. I am just battling in my head which engine to get. Any input is greatly appreciated.
