    2019 vs 2020 GS22 Surf Wake

Looking at upgrading the ski boat for a GS22. I know the GS's are the multi sport boats so the surf wake is not as good as the G series but the GS22 is what we would want to get as I do ski sometimes as well. Ive read there were hull design improvements and NSS changes starting in 2020. I would also want to get the upgraded factory ballast which i believe is 2950lbs. Is there a difference between 2019 vs 2020 or newer? Is it worth waiting to find a 2020? My local dealer has a 2019 that looks really nice, but I want to get the best possible surf wake out of the GS22

Yes there was definitely a hull change to the GS22 on the 2020 model, And from what I’ve read it made a significant improvement to the surf wave.

Is there really a BIG difference between the 2 years??
I know the hull was changed slightly to eliminate the little lip that appears about 3/4 the way up the wave. but overall, it's essentially the same, is it not?

The 2019 and 2020 have a similar design but the hull is very different, the 2020 or newer have a significantly better wake, it’s not just the removal if the lip and white wash of the older models, if you surf a lot 2020 or newer.

I went from a 2019 to 2021 (same as 2020) and I think the wave is much better/longer. In addition, the tower is significantly higher, where I no longer hit my head.

We bought our 2020 GS22 new in May 2020 since we surf and ski, and I did a fair bit of research before pulling the trigger. As I was looking, I think I recall that the bigger impact on the wave between the 2019 and 2020+ models was the fact that the NSS plates extend an additional 2”. Having not surfed behind a 2019 GS22 I can’t compare, but I can say that our GS22 with the Pro Ballast option throws all the wave that my family and I need for some awesome surfing!

                North Woody,
I am currently looking to purchase a GS22 and was thinking of going with a 2020 year or newer. You mention that your GS 22 has all the wave your family needs... I am a little on the larger size.. around 230. You feel that your boat would have enough push for someone my size?

OutBoatin, In my opinion, with Pro Ballast, no problem.

I'm about the same and surf behind an '07 SV211 with no problem. If you can't do it behind a late model GS22, the boat is not the problem.

(I don't mean this to sound snarky.)
