2022 G23 with Supplemental Ballast Surf Setup

    Hey gang,

Only about 4 hours on the boat with one surf session but here's where I am:

    - The stock "Wakesurf" profile is everything full and speed at 11.4

    - The surf setting at 5 (I think).

This really don't produce a great surf wake. It's OK, but sloppy on top. We had to go up to 12.5 to clean that up.

We had 7 people on the boat. No really big guys.

What's everyone else doing? I almost felt like we needed to drop some ballast out of the center tanks.

That seems kind of odd to me. I ride full ballast at all settings and it’s clean 0 - 10. Although I’m not riding with 7 people most of the time but do have 400 lbs of lead and ride at 11.8. I haven’t heard from anyone yet saying you could have too much weight but I guess that’s possible. I’ve seen that happen on other manufacturers. One possibility is that the surf system wasn’t fully engaged all the way. I’ve had that happen a time or two but it’s easily corrected with turning the boat off and back on. Hope this helps and good luck.

Where are you putting your lead?

I placed 100 lbs in the stern on each side, 100 lbs in the bow and 100 lbs port side. I’ve moved it around a few times but keeping coming back to this same placement. I ride finless quite a bit but with only 1 - 2 people at a time. I will have 6 people on the boat tomorrow and can let you guys know how it is. Keep in mind I don’t have lead because I need it but had if left over from my 2021.

I also have new 2022 G23 with supplemental ballast and telescoping tower with exact same issue. I dont have any lead on board but the wave isnt nearly as clean as on the 2021 G23 demo boat which had 900lbs of lead on it (but it did not have the supplemental ballast or telescoping tower). Been trying various speeds and ballast settings but havent found the sweet spot yet. Seems odd.

I know the telescoping tower is really heavy, and wondering if the boat is over ballasted now with the supplemental? Anyone else with same issue?

NSS 0 NCRS 2-4, could be the depth of your lake if your in 12 feet depth or less the wave washes out. It should be a beast.

There are no longer NSS and NCRS settings after 2021, it's just a 1-10 setting for the wave and speed is separate.

An update. We surfed yesterday with 5 people. 4 on the boat, one surfing. FULL tank of fuel. All ballast full. We were running:

                - 12.3 MPH
                - Surf system at 0 or 1

This produced a really nice wake. Testing will continue...

First off, double check that the pro ballast tanks are filling because on mine the default settings did not have them filling, I had to edit the configurations. I have found that the wave is cleaner and more enjoyable to ride with the pro ballast only filled to 50% vs 100%. I only have 4 people in the boat and 150# of lead. I only have 11 hours on mine but have been running the surf wave setting 4-5 and adjusting the speed from 11.2-11.6 depending on how rough the water conditions are. The default settings seem pretty solid (other than having to edit the pro ballast) but always tweaking a little here and there and curious to see what has worked best for others.

Yes, I'm aware it came from the factory with supplemental ballast set to 0% on the "Wakesurf" profile.

Good idea on the 50% in the supplemental. I'll try that next time we go out. Thanks for the info!

What do you mean "pro ballast?"

He's confusing the terms. "Pro ballast" was the term Nautique used/uses on the 210/230 and the GS series for extra bags on top of the hard tanks.

In the G series boats, it's Supplemental Ballast.

                          Gang,

After more surf sessions we keep coming back to : Belly and both rear tanks at 100%, Supplementals at 50%. Now this is with a FULL tank of gas. I just don't leave the dock without a full tank.

Anyway, we surfed yesterday with just 2 of us on the boat and it surfed great with this setup. We're finding that adjusting the supplemental ballast is the way to manage additional people on the boat.

I am struggling with setup as well. even with the supplemental at 50% i find it way too choppy. how can i get a clean wave at between 10.8-11.2 MPH?

You may not get a clean wave that slow. We're pulling at a minimum of 11.5.
