    2014 G23 Surf Setting Help

2014 G23 what is the best surf setting? I am trying to help a friend, he is having problems staying in the wave.

On our '15 I'm using full ballast, ncrs at 4 or 5 and surf setting at 1. Is your buddy goofy or regular?

He was wanting to run 11.5 or something similar, but I thought that was too fast compared to my OG210 surfing

11.5 is too fast for an OG 210. It’s fine for a G23, especially at full ballast. That hull wants a faster speed to clean up the wave.

Ok that makes more since. I had my OG210 at 10.3mph with 750lbs in the rear lockers, belly full, and wedge but still didn’t ride good.

I ride 5-0 at 11.4mph speed will change for me pending how it feels, I like long wave so ill speed up to 11.7 max sometimes with full ballast and 1100 extra in the rear lockers (550 each side) then I have 400 lbs of lead that I move around. Usually keep 250 up front and 100 on port side last 50 will move accordingly to what side im surfing on. Usually its just wife and I and our dog maybe 2 other ppl. Ill not fill 100% if I have a full boat.

WIfe rides 4-2 with same ballast set up at 11.5mph

I watched Shaun Murray crush a wave riding his wakeboard. I though ohh I got to try this. My jaw is still soar from laughing. When I would bump over to the other side we would switch the wave side, back, and forth. Almost as fun as surfing if you haven't tried it, I said almost. I might add, I've got nothing on Shaun, lol.

Lockem25, I don't know why we've never gone to the 11.7 mark. Wave seems to be dialed in between 11.2 & 11.4. I'll have to try that on the next ride to see what happens. Is 11.7ish the max for the surf gate, seems I read something?

12.9 is max for surf gate on my 14 g23, I was curious one day and tried it. Rides fast but the wave is sooo long at anything above 12. Definitely need full ballast at that speed though.

Thanks, I'm all in, I'll throw out some feedback...

I would hang an edit and pull the quote, so Jeff doesn't have to

I think the G wave is short and steep, so whatever you can do to lengthen and flatten it out is benefical. Usually with the family of 4 I run my 16’ G23 w/ the 450 at 5 / 0, 11.2-11.4mph, 100% ballast + 500lbs of steel shot with 300lbs of that in the bow, 200lbs port side.

When I have a crowd on board I usually have to dump some of the port and starboard ballast if I can’t get a couple bodies up in bow seats.

For the little kids, a 60% wave at 3/2 is clean and perfect.
