This is the layup schedule for the bow reinforcement. Divinicell foam core, CSM, Bi axial S glass, CSM. Then the peel ply, cotton absorbant cloth and the bagging film. The hardest part is finding and sealing up all the little leaks that you can hear hissing once the vacuum is pulled. I catalyized the polyester resin at 1% to give me plenty of working time. Now just waiting 6-8 hours for it to cure enough that I can pull the bagging material off and see how it turned out. Fingers crossed!

Came out pretty good. It took 16oz of resin thickened with this west systems material called colodial silica to bond the foam core to the hull and then another 16oz of resin to wet out the 3 layers of fiberglass to sandwich the foam core to the hull. The effect of the reinforcement is noticeable. When I push and pull on the side of the bow that’s not yet reinforced I can get it to flex, not much but I can see and feel it flexing. The reinforced side is now very stiff and won’t flex at least not to where it’s visually noticable to me.

Currently finishing up the belly storage and fuel tank floor pieces that I started on prior to getting side tracked with the bow reinforcement. Then gel coat the inside soon hopefully here as I find time to work on this during the holidays.
That hole was cut at the factory and used to run all the dash wiring and some other hoses back to the engine. It gets hidden by the carpeted vertical panel under the dash when it’s all put together.

I got side tracked again after the “cut hole” question three posts above. I was looking at it and noticed that it sticks out past the footrest where it will be visible without all the carpet hiding it. So I fibergalssed it back behind the footrest where the circuit breaker panel that mounts to the footrest will hide it. Still working on the belly hatch and fuel tank floor panels.

So if you ever finish, what are you going to do with this boat?

If I ever finish it I intend to keep it and use it because like iv said before I will never get close to what iv got into it in money and personal labor. When I’m done it won’t be worth much more than any other clean 02 SAN. It will still functionally be a stock old boat with what many would consider high hours regardless that mechanically it will have been completely rebuilt. It will just be very clean and I don’t think there’s crazy value added for “clean”.

Incredible thread and most important lesson I learned is having OCD can cost years of riding time. I thought I was overdoing it when I replaced my damper plate and then decided to replace the transmission seals and mounts since I had it out of the boat. Those gantry lifts you built are sweet too. I have been combing Craigslits lately to find one. Can’t wait to see how this project finally turns out for you.
