Carpet did not dry out enough today for me to reinstall the gas tank tonight, so I'll let it go overnight and see how it is tomorrow. Carpet looks great though!

Dehumidifier and fans will be running all night in the garage.

Oh yeah, one more cool thing. This boat has a heater, and it hasn't been working. I played around with it a bit today and got it working again on all three speeds.

Got the gas tank back in tonight. Time for another test ride.

Got the windshield back on tonight with the proper size walk-thru door. Test ride tomorrow!

Took it out for a real test ride today, and I am happy to report that almost everything works! Ballast system works great (slow, but as good as it was from the factory), no leaks from the exhaust, engine running nicely, windshield in place, etc. I even got the ballast level gauges working! Also pulled off the steering wheel and centered it. This always needs to be done after the steering cable is replaced.

I did find a possible issue with the fuel gauge. It reads empty, but it may be because I really don't have too much fuel in the boat. It also could be a bent sending unit. We'll see.

Turned out great. My sending unit was not bent on my SpN 2001 but I did have to replace my sending unit

Just a final cleaning, refinishing of the swim platform, and repairing the fuel gauge issue (if there really is an issue), and it'll be ready to sell.

Got the rest of the interior cleaned and installed today. I almost want to keep this boat now.

Just a couple more things to do and then it'll be for sale!

Jeff, you’ve done a lot of dashes over the years. I would like to run a heavier gauge ground to my dash in hopes to eliminate the annoying low voltage beep. Where does the the dash ground originate from?

On my '98 Ski Nautique, I ran two new wires from the engine block (stock termination point for the grounds) to the dash. I connected one to PerfectPass so that it had its own ground, and one to a ground bus. I then connected the grounds from all of the gauges and accessories near the dash to the bus.

I love reading through these rebuild threads that Jeff produces. I'm sure it adds a lot of time to the overall process but it's super interesting and if I can be patient and wait until it's almost done, it's really cool to see the results from start to finish in one read. TY Jeff!

Thanks, that’s the info I’m looking for. I’m hoping to get to my dash within the next two weeks. I’m currently entrenched in my motorhome remodel.

BTW, great work in this resto. I love the attention to detail in the bilge area, I can’t stand a boat with a dirty bilge.

2. Do you have a link to the 98’ dash wire diagram. I’m working on a 98’ SS.

Finished all the rest of the work on the Sport Nautique today. One final cleaning and it'll be ready to sell!


Here's today's work:

Removed the varnish that the previous owner had on the swim platform, sanded it, and oiled it.




Installed the rest of the pinstripe.




Installed the windshield trim over the mounting screws.



I also wired up the 12-volt plug in the dashboard.
