- The foam in our older boats is compressed. You can steam the foam and it will recovered somewhat. Doing this helps the skin fit right and also gives the cushion a less 'flat' look - the picture below.
Outside of these two items, everything else is pretty straight forward.
In this picture, you can see the difference side by side.
The left cushion has both the welts removed and dacron batting installed. The right cushion does not. Note how the right one is both lumpier and flatter. If I took some closeups, I could also illustrate some differences in the seam alignment between the two. The edge seams on the right cushion are more 'rolled over' the edge due to the foam compression. The seams on the left cushion better line up with the edge and look more correct.
At some point, I plan to pull my right skin and re-install it to match the left side.
Here's a closeup of the right cushion - you can see the lump from the extra welt fabric that was not removed.
