2002 Nautique 196

No idea.. will let you know this weekend once it is done. I anticipate most of the cost is getting the windshield off and on vs. the actual powder coating.

Hoping to have the boat in the water by Sunday and brave the cold water (56 degrees) to get a first ski in.

Launched yesterday, it’s pretty great but learned a few things.
- Teleflex rpm and speedo don’t work
- wondering if the hours I thought were on it is accurate now... oh well
- either the fuel gauge is not perfect or this thing drinks gas
- the wake at speed is increadibly nice
- this thing drives like a sports car
- I need to wash the carpet
- Spray Nine Marine Cleaner is the most amazing thing for vinyl I have ever used
- the rear hatch pop button makes a noise but doesn’t release
- the gas struts are bad on rear hatch and glovebox
- the gel coat repair looks amazing with the exception that the top of the hull (white) looks like it was missed... will get that fixed

The interior shot was before I cleaned.. will post a better interior this weekend once I scrub the carpet. The vinyl looks so much better.

Hoping the new vinyl skins show up in the next two weeks for the back. I may end up doing the others this fall... Trying to not spend too much money on it (already failed there) but it is nice to have a nice boat.

The carpet on the vertical part of the rear seat is a little torn up. Anyone know of an easy-ish fix on that? Replacing all the carpet seems like a lot of work so replacing that single section would mean it doesn't match.

Also, does anyone know what the up-down arrows on the keypad (where you put the code) are for? I assume they do nothing on the 196?

I put new lifts in my 2004 glove box and trunk hatch lifts earlier this year. I believe you're boat will use the same parts - here's what I used:

We used the boat all summer, it is fantastic and is a rocket ship. Ski'd 3-4 times a week every week during the summer and it exceeded expectations. Pulled the boat for the season end of September and put on the new vinyl on the rear of the boat... it looks so good I am ordering the remaining skins now for a winter project. Will also put in the new speakers and replace the radio which doesn't work.

The gauges are failing/failed so I am considering doing the replacement there, have not committed to it since we really don't need them with PP.

One new thing I found was that the heater hoses have broken off at the heater box. Do you know if these can be purchased separate or do I need a new heater box?

Also the pistons from Amazon were too weak for use, need to replace those again.

Looks nice - is that C&S vinyl? My trunk pistons are working fine. I had a glove box piston fail and reported to the seller who replaced it per the one year warranty. I'm on the second piston now (there were two in the package...) and have the replacement as a backup. If the second one dies, I'll consider the experiment a failure

Re heater hoses....you'll likely have to inspect closely. Typically on the heater box side, they connect directly to the heater core. If they are broken off, then it's likely the core is no good...but you'd need to eyeball to be sure. I'm assuming the block side hoses are disconnected? Good! Not sure what is up with mine, the trunk pistons don't appear to have enough pressure to open the lids. The glovebox doesn't really open or stay open, it does seem like the leverage point might be off.

Thanks, not really the heater hose that goes to the engine, they are the hoses that can pull away from the drivers firewall panel and carry the hot air, those have detached from the heater core.

Shouldn't be too hard to fix then. Remove the kick panel and use zip ties to reattach. Mine are a bit finicky to route as there are four outlets in the boat and three vents from the core....makes things crowded.

The outlets are - two in the kick panel, one defrost under the windshield and one underdash pullout for the passenger.

Will post pictures soon but had the rest of the hull redone this winter, added new decals, and had rear upholstery redone, it looks almost about perfect. I did find out the hull is actually a 2003 model, learned when I tried to replace the rear hatch shocks. Don't think that means anything, just interesting to have a 2002 model year boat with a 2003 hull and a GT40 engine.
