6 coats of mold release wax, 2 coats of pva, then the cup gun crushed a disposable cup, gelcoat spilled out over me, went everywhere and made a mess.
had a backup qaurt poured used a plastic cup and got 1 1/2 qauts of gel down but it looked bad.

5 layers of mat laid down and bubble rolled out real nice, we'll know in a couple days if its a mold.

Thanks heckler, self builds are more satisfying in my opinion.
well, got a seat mold, post work is minimal and i'm gonna add a partial flange to help pop the parts out but its a success to this point.
Got the layup schedule from a pro glass guy buddy of mine and just followed the notes.
gonna make an uncored couple layer test piece before laying up the cored real deals.
the test piece will go on to get modified and another mold made from that.

also made a strut shim from 4 layers of 1700 off a waxed piece of masonite, it'll grind down pretty easy

The mold got trimmed down equal all around and a half assed flange was added to help release the seat without scratching it or the mold
first seat came out and looks good, apart from minor wet sanding from spraying pva in the mold.
the mold came away with no issues so 1 down 1 to go.

All no longer used interior dash and exterior holes patched, air intake tubes glassed in on the deck, starting to look like a boat and gel is starting.
bare spots on platform and rear seat get non skid, still undecided on color

Layed up another seat then shot waxed gel over it. Hopefully it makes a nicer finished product.

Other seat has been done for a week or so, but gel in the boat got shot today, tinted gray

Which seat front or back? Basically the front seat skins will wrap an inch or so around the perimeter and snap in place. cushions on the business side gel on the exposed side.
the back seat same thing wrap and snap. Fit and finish is nice but not hi end rolls royce fluff. Snap off hose em down hang on line.

The 2 seats on the dining room table are nice but the 1 minus gel is going on to be a plug for another mold, and the gelled one gets upholstered and will be my out in the shed chair.

2 layers of paint and primer on the deck, real fast w/ 40 and 80 grit removed the paint, for fun real quick i ran 320 600 and 800 over the original gel then buffed it 1 pass.

the deck is getting shot with gel since there are some old tower holes snap holes, gauge holes etc, the lifting eyes are gone and some modifications that i did around the air intakes and back seat.

question is the non skid (tuffcoat light blue or carribean blue) on the gunnels for sure, but on the back deck either
- a strip up the middle that lines up with the step on the rear seat, or
- the whole rear deck except the vertical section with ar vent and the gas filler

Wow. Looking good! If the grit is not too rough, I'd shoot it in selected places where people will board or dive off the boat. A slick deck can be dangerous. Or...you add seadeck or a sano pad as an alternative....

Last weekend was a bust, neighbor had tree cut down

The deck and transom will be shot in white gelcoat, the gunnels and rear deck portions that are masked off will be tuffcoat (rubberized non skid)

top of engine box, center of rear seat/step and floor will be all tuffcoat,
Could have shot it today at 3pm but with no idea of evening weather i ddn't do it.
Weatherman says rain over the weekend, hopefully early next week it'll be a go

So...how does this work? Basically you prep the surface as if you were going to paint it and you shoot gelcoat instead? And they you wetsand it flat and buff it out?

Can you also do that on a vertical surface?
