Well, NP is out of keypads for this boat, so that part is going to be delayed. They sent the order to the factory and they'll drop-ship one to me, but that will probably take a few extra days.

Surprisingly, the keypad showed up here this afternoon from the factory! That was very fast!

I have it installed in the dash, and am ready to put everything back in the boat, including the new three-way switch.

Now if the rain would just let up...

Yeah, oddly enough, the weather forecast says tomorrow may be OK. I just went out and pulled the three-way switch out of the boat so that I can wire in the new one during the rain. Luckily it has a plug on one end so it was easy to remove. The new one uses spade connectors, so I will need to add those to the wire ends. The original was soldered.

Got the new three-way switch all wired up with spade connectors with adhesive heat shrink. Just need to put it back in the boat and test it all out!

New three-way switch, new keypad, and dashboard are back in the boat. It seems that there was also an issue with the PME relay, so I replaced that too. While I was doing electrical work, I went ahead and replaced the battery terminals too. Now everything is back together. There's not much else to this electrical system, so it should last a good long time without any issues now.

Power to the keypad and the rest of the dash is back to normal!

ok...have to ask so I might learn something. a) what's PME relay even do? b) how would I know I have problems with one?

It provides power to the PME box (the breaker box that powers the rest of the boat). Mine would allow the system to power up, and then power would die when I tried to actually use something (or start the boat).

Today was very disappointing.

After all of the electrical work I did, I dropped the boat into the water on my ramp, and started it up. It was leaking water from the back of the engine, but I found a hose that wasn't connected properly, and I easily fixed that issue. I started it up again, and it started leaking water from the side of one of the exhaust manifolds. There is a freeze plug there under the decal, so that gave me a really bad feeling when I saw water there. I pulled the decal off of the side of the manifold and found the freeze plug loose and stuck to the decal. Not cool. I popped the freeze plug back in and started it again, and there was water coming out of a big long crack in the block.

Yep, whoever had this boat before me did not winterize it properly, and the block is ruined.

Looks like this boat will be getting a replacement engine...

Here's the crack. At the time of this video, the engine had been off for about ten minutes, and it was still leaking from the crack.

Here's the blown freeze plug under the decal on the manifold.

Oh man...that's not the surprise you want to find. Wow...that feeling when you saw the first popped freeze plug. :/

Ugh, man, that's the worst news for that project. Sorry. Will you go for an all-new complete engine? Or a new longblock (and manifolds, it seems)?

You think that GS22 Electric Motor would fit in there? Might be a great retro fit!!

That would be awesome, but a bit cost-prohibitive I think.

I think I have a remanufactured Excalibur from PCM lined up at this point. This will be a newer engine with cats, so it will be newer technology, and will have a bit more horsepower (343 vs 330), and should be a great fit for this boat.

Do you have to change out the ECU when upgrading to the newer motor or does the new one come complete with a new ECU? Never swapped an inboard motor just curious how that works vs when you swap in a car.
