Well, this boat is now running once again!

I went down to PCM and picked it up today, and they went ahead and did a full rebuild on the engine. It was pretty rusty inside, and they said that was the only thing to do. The block was machined, and lots of parts inside were replaced. It got a new FCC and new manifolds as well.

Looking forward to getting it out on the water as soon as I get the interior back in it!

Jeff, does PCM offer everyday 'walkup' repair services like this or do you get special considerations from what you do? Typically I think of mfgrs wanting to refer business like this to their authorized networks but maybe PCM has chosen to run a service business as well.....

This is not something they typically do for retail customers. I am lucky to have them as a site sponsor for this site, so they provide a few extra services to me, which is a huge help with the boats that I restore. To be clear, I still have to pay, but I can sometimes get them to help with major issues that otherwise would have to go through a dealer.

Spending some time on the carpet today.

Let's remember where we started:



And here's the carpet today after spending some time using spray nine marine and an old push broom as a brush, and a pressure washer.







This last picture was before I scrubbed and sprayed the side carpet behind the throttle handle.

Oh, and here's a shot of the freshly-rebuilt engine. Doesn't look much different than before, but now it runs!

What's your preferred carpet method?

In the spring, I need to do a deep clean and am thinking of something like what's below. My carpet is not bad, just want to remove the PO glick and then the typical sunscreen over spray / general usage dirt, etc

1 - wet and soap. either with a commercial carpet soap or maybe spray nine.
2 - use an orbital polisher with one these brushes to scrub.
3 - flood and wet vac to remove glick

Then there's a question of a spray treatment - something like scotchguard or similar to repel every day dirt and just stay ahead of things. Need to see what options there are.

I just wet everything down, spray on some Spray Nine Marine (just a small amount is all you need), and scrub with a stiff brush. Then I pressure wash it with a medium tip. Be careful not to hit the speaker covers because it'll tear them. The carpet handles the pressure washer just fine. Flush and flush and flush until there is no more sign of suds from the Spray Nine Marine. Using too much Spray Nine Marine will lead to extended flushing!

I just let it dry in the sun for a day or so, and then it goes in the garage with a dehumidifier and fan on it.

Carpet is pretty dry at this point. I think it turned out pretty good!











I went ahead and squeezed it back into the garage and I have the dehumidifier running to pull out the last bit of water in the carpet.

That does look nice. I might have to pull some of my seats out like you've done when I do my spring clean. Nice to be able to get around the bases.

Did this boat ever fill with water? Looks like the cover leaked and it was wet for long periods but maybe they were smart enough to have kept the plug out?

How is the back seat connected to the boat? I have a 2003, air 216 and want to remove the back seat but am having a tough time figuring out where the connections to the boat are.

It didn't fill with water. The cover must have leaked though, and it was pooled with water for a LONG time. It was so pooled that it actually bent the rubrail by pulling on the snaps used to secure the cover! That's why I had to replace the rubrail. The cover must have come off at least a part of the front, because there was one area where the black gel had oxidized and needed to be sanded. I am just glad they left the plug out! All of the electronics, including the speakers, sub, amps, heater, PP Master Module, and dash look brand new. Even the gateway box looks great.

Any plans to pull the gas tank and get the (possible) grime and mildew from under there? Mine was nasty.

I might do that. Pulling the tank isn't too hard.
