2000 Ski Nautique

In 2016 I bought my Ski Nautique. I was really just learning to ski and just getting into boating so I could ski more (been tagging along with my friends for a couple years). I found my 2000 SNOB for a great deal In Kansas.
I brought it home on Wednesday night and we skied Thursday morning.

I have slowly replaced skins, cleaned up the interior, tuned up items, but I have always been a little more power hungry. The boat skied really well, and ran ok with minimal maintenance. The 5.0 Pro Sport is a little lacking in the low end. It keeps good speed in the course, and it is really economical. I was looking at bumping up the power, but as I skied more I found that I rally wanted to upgrade to Zero Off.

My buddy put a 409 in his Ski Nautique to get Zero Off and it’s a great ride. So I took the jump, and got ahold of Tim @ Inboard Solutions on the recommendation of my buddy Chris. In November I pulled the 5.0 and sent it to a guy who needed to replace a failed winterization.

I ordered my new power plant on the 17th of November hoping to see it in 12 weeks or so. Due to supply chain issues my 12 week wait was 19 weeks. It’s winter here so it gave some time to work out how I was going to fit a 6.0 in my engine bay. There was a few items I had to do, and a few I did while I had the space.
new shift and throttle cables, new steering cable, new fuel lines, new plumbing for exhaust and raw water, and general cleaning that is a lot easier with no engine.

The next thing was Zero Off and the clamshell.

Then finally after 19 weeks I got my delivery.

I dropped it in last Saturday and spent the week plumbing and aligning. It’s so rainy and generally still a little cold. We got snow one day.

I had one minor hiccup with my can signal, to get Zero Off up and running, but with Tims help we got that sorted out. The only other issue I had was my transmission cable bracket needed to be modified get under my heat exchanger. All in all it has been a fun process and taken me way outside my comfort zone ( carpenter by trade). I just really want to get in the water and start skiing.
Hers a little video I shot on Saturday when we got an hour on the lake to start breaking it in. Rolling start to 49 mph in a heartbeat.

I have to laugh because in looking at your boat launch photos, I said to myself, "That looks like southern MN." Then, I looked at where you're from.
