Got the observer's seat installed, and also did some work on the throttle panel.
The throttle panels on these boats are a pain. They're difficult to remove, awkward to handle, and they never clean up very well. I had to remove this one because I needed to get the old speaker out and replace it with the Roswell R1 speaker. Due to the contours of the speaker cavity in this panel, you can't front-mount the Roswell R1 speaker the way the speaker is meant to be mounted. You also can't really remove the front plastic panel on the speaker because that's where the tweeter is mounted, and also because the LED lights are there. That means you have to get creative and find some way to back-mount the speaker while keeping the front panel intact without it looking stupid. Luckily my upholstery guy has already redone the speaker fabric, so I was able to back-mount the speaker behind that, and that will allow the speaker to work properly and allow the LED lights to show through the fabric. Should be pretty cool.
I also removed the old 2" stereo remote, which was mounted to a gauge hole in this panel. That was a dumb option since the stereo head unit was mounted less than 14" away on the same panel! I also removed the non-working analog clock. Both holes were filled with 2" gauge blanks, and it turned out looking pretty good.
I also installed a lanyard cut-off switch in the empty hole where it was supposed to be. The previous owner had bypassed it by connecting the two wires together. I want this one set up right, so I replaced it.
As for the uncleanable top of this panel, I have traced it and will be ordering a custom piece of gray and black SeaDek for this location. I am actually going to order several. I have a number of boats that use this same panel and have this same issue.
