I can smell that right through my computer screen - such a well cared for boat.

The first thing I go to is the DOT date on the tires. At 6 years they are gone. I also watch for a predictable and immediate failure predictor, a wobble in the trailer boat guides, or a vibration in your driver's seat. Your situation was predictable and there is nothing more unsafe than changing a tire on the site of the road. In a pinch, you can often find trailer tires at a local Pro Bass, Boat Owners Warehouse, Walmart, Home Depot, or Tractor Supply. Here in South Florida, you can get them everywhere and off the shelf in my favorite trailer color...galvanized.

This boat is up and running again! I picked it up from PCM on my way home from the Paragon release today, and they had it out on the water yesterday running it. The overheated GT40 that was in this boat is now in their rebuild queue, and the Excalibur that they refreshed for me earlier is now in this boat.

I dropped this boat off at the world-famous BBC here in Mooresville, NC, and will spend the weekend over there giving the boat a good cleaning, a gelcoat buff/polish, and then install the new graphics, decals, and pinstripes. I'll also install the new Flight Clip bungees. I'll also be refinishing the teak swim platform.

I hope to have this boat at my dock by the end of the weekend for my own personal water test, and then it will be up for sale.

Here's the refreshed Excalibur 330. The plastic engine cover is in my garage, and will be installed this weekend.

This boat is now inside at the world-famous BBC here in Mooresville, NC. I gave it a quick wipe down, and was able to do a little test buffing on it today before I had to leave. I am hoping to spend significant time over there again tomorrow, and hope to get it all buffed, polished and waxed, and install the pinstripe and decals.

Finally remembered to do a tape line. I think this one is going to shine up nicely!

I spent the day buffing, polishing and waxing this boat. It turned out pretty nice!

I also installed all of the new decals and the pinstripes.

This boat originally had silver metal flake pinstripes, but I didn't think those would contrast well with the Zephyr color, so I installed black. I am very happy with the black and how it looks.

I also installed three of the four Flight Clip bungees. The fourth one shot the little ball into the boat while I was assembling it, and I can't find it! Hopefully NautiqueParts has an extra one around.

I still need to refinish the swim platform, and I will also replace the shift cable. That cable melted when the previous owner overheated the engine, so it is very stiff. The interior still needs to be cleaned too.

Had pretty decent bones to start, with the exeption of the severed spinal cord melt down.

Jeff...can you summarize how you lay out and apply the graphics to get them nicely aligned?

I pull up pictures of the model in question, and then find a reference point to use on the boat. These SKI NAUTIQUE graphics are short enough that I could just hold the ends with two hands, align them as needed, and stick them on.

Hey Jeff - at what point do you need to declare yourself a boat dealer?

Here in Washington state...if you transact enough cars in a calendar period, the state determines you're no longer a private party and are effectively a dealer....and have to operate within all the associated parameters...

That is an interesting point. If you title the boat you have to pay sales tax. Is it worth becoming a dealer to avoid that tax.

Another evening spent at the world-famous BBC here in Mooresville, NC.

Did a little work on the project boats, including this 2001 Ski Nautique.

Replaced the transmission cable tonight. I also finished up the Flight Clip bungee install (I got an extra bungee ball from White Lake when I was there on Wednesday).

I'll go back tomorrow and clean up the interior as much as possible, and might pull it home and drop it in the water for a test run.

Still need to refinish the platform, but I want to run it first, and then pull it out of the water and refinish the platform right before I list it for sale.

If anyone wants a really nice 2001 Ski Nautique, let me know!

Boat is in the water, on my lift!

Water test went OK.

Found that the temperature gauge either doesn't work, or the engine is running really cold. I'll diagnose that tomorrow.

Found that the voltmeter either isn't working, or the alternator is not working. I'll diagnose that tomorrow.

Found that the PerfectPass display is fading badly. It is working, but the display needs to be replaced.

The engine ran well, and the new shift cable required no additional adjustment, which was nice!

Well, testing this morning with Diacom and a voltmeter determined that the alternator is not working.

A new one from NautiqueParts is over $300, so I am going to see if I can have it rebuilt locally. I'll take it to the place tomorrow and see what they say.

I'll pull the dash today and replace the PerfectPass display with one that I have here.

Hey, you have a full tank of petrol, and good oil pressure, good start to a finish.

I know the power plant is new, but does that really say 252 hours on a '01?

Yeah, I stopped to fill it up with gas on the way to the lake, and realized it was already full. That's a start! And the oil pressure does indeed look good.

Yes, the gauge does say 262, but remember these are replacement gauges. The original gauges were those stupid digital ones that only lasted a few years before they died, and the hours are stored in the gauges. No idea when these were replaced, but it was about 262 hours ago, I guess.

The replacement gauges that were used are not GPS-based, they use the PerfectPass paddlewheel that was originally on the boat. I mention this because PerfectPass will display water temperature info if the paddlewheel is still present in these boats. I have never had one where the water temperature actually displayed in the PP gauge, because previously I have always replaced these gauges with GPS gauges, eliminating the paddlewheel, and there is no connection for the water temp. If you look at the gauge picture above, you can see the water temp on the left side. Hopefully the new PerfectPass gauge will still display the water temp.
