    2001 Sport Nautique

Starting a project on a 2001 Sport Nautique here in Texas. Bought from auction from a summer camp for $1995 in May 2024. Was told it ran last year. needs heavy cleaning, new carpet and upholstery, maintenance, gelcoat restoration.

Update: Clean it out a bit from the leaves and debris. Cleaned the boat and some of the interior. Off to the resto shop for some help with motor, gelcoat and carpet, upholstery. Can not wait to get more of photos of the transformation.

Engine update: Needs new starter but it does have compression and no cracks. They will be changing the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, starter, plugs, wires, lower unit oil, says it needs a few fuel lines, tank drained and cleaned, clean fuel rails and injectors. may replace injectors. Also will be replacing the steering cable.

any other issues I may need to look out for?

I have ordered new rub rail, a jumpseat off facebook group, shocks for engine cover, rear hatch and observer seat, haul decals, as well as SeaDek in grey and black to match what Jeff did on the 2000 SN.

I courious about a lot of the electronics like gauges and stereo but we'll cross that when we start to see more work being done.

Contemplating the tower from New Dimensions. It is missing the top half of it so going to remove it for now.

I'll keep this page updated as the project moves along. I am inspired by all of Jeff's restorations. Hopefully this will turn out close to how nice his boats have!! Click image for larger version

some updates: new carpet has been installed and upholstery should be back any day now witht he grey/white/navy scheme! Boat had full buff and polish, new motor parts (starter, exhaust manifolds, water pump, impeller) the original guy I took it to started to scam me on work, cost and basically just was taking advatage of me so I have took the boat back and doing a lot myself at this point. DO NOT USE BACK ON THE WATER/BACK ON THE ROAD RV IN CLEBURNE, TX.

I have added seadek (template had cleats in another position I did not realize so just cut them out versus ordering new)

I have added new Sport Nautique decals, rub rail needs ot be installed, a new prop is needed, oil and filter will need to be changed, a new battery is needed and a new stereo, speakers, cup holders.

Still a ways to go but it is getting close.

The hull has caked on brown stuff I need to use starbrite on and the trailer needs a rebuild. Click image for larger version

Wow first of all! You have your work cut out for you! It also made me feel better about my 1999 Air Nautique, sorry but ya know.
Anyway, if its not too much to ask if you could keep us/me updated about your progress and where you are finding stuff that would be so great!

                Thank you for sharing!

Interior is in but not fully bolted down, Rub rail has been completed, and the boat is at Buxton here in DFW for some motor and rudder work. Excited to get it back and add the windshield back on and see if i can get it on water before season officially ends! much needed trailer work will be needed after we can get her onto a slip.

Buxton informed me I have low compression in 3 cylinders after they changed out the high pressure fuel pump and relay....unfortunately, their suggestion is a full rebuild....so the fall/winter project begins.

Is there any step by step guides or instructions on how to undress the motor to be pulled? Would like to much of the work if I can to truly understand the motor and all that goes into it.

Any local DFW machine shops anyone trusts?

Any GT-40 motors available any one has?!! haha

Three on same side? Maybe just a head gasket??
