Jody is advertising a GT40 on ski-it-again. Looks like a heck of a deal! Engine pulled for a repower. I like the GT40 if everything is new (injectors, dist, MAP, etc), they run pretty well.

Got the boat on the water finally! After repacking the rudder and driveshaft if finally did not leak. The motor and heads will need to be rebuilt. We pushed it off the trailer and towed it with the jet ski and put it on the lift. Next, I will be rebuilding the trailer while boat is off and engine components are sourced. We will put the boat back on trailer in October and pull the engine the second week of October. The project continues!

Also, if you know the sizes or can measure on your boat the windshield support bars and post below that would be helpful!!! I bought some and then cut them and it does not sit right. Exact sizes for both sides would e super helpful!

Interior pieces were purposely left off boat** need to fix bow bolts that did not get remedied in reupholster project. Thought about using 3m tape to attach back of top bow pieces to curved area in front of windshield...

Re the engine...just curious....how many hours does it show? And this year is still the GT40 and not the PCM 330, correct?

And how does it run now? Is it ok? You can run a long time with low compression in a few holes without any big issue.

Pulling a direct drive motor has got to be super simple. Maybe the most difficult part would be locating a tall enough hoist to lift the motor over the gunnel...or a building with a rafter hoist.

I suspect you can get by with a very moderate rebuild. Just hone the cylinders, ring it and toss in some new rod and crank bearings while you're in there. Heads likely will need the valves ground. But not much after that unless.its been abused. Iron block V8s are tough beasts....

I am unsure of the hours. It came from a Texas summer camp I bought out of auction. new gauges that do not accurately report hours. Probably will send dash off to nautique jeff at silver cove to redo gauges and dash this offseason.

It is the 351w with the gt-40 heads. After speaking with buxton, they stated it would start and run, just not well. I started and ran it to test the rudder packing. it did start, idle was inconsistent, and started to smoke after running for 5-7 mins. Thats when I found the driveshaft leak and repacked it the following week just towed it vs running it again as we found metal shavings in the oil from the dipstick. Best not to damage it anymore we felt.

As far as removing engine, my brother in law has a large shop on his property and has the applicable hoists to pull it. I'll post some photos of its removal, rebuild and install as well as the trailer build.

Next season is just around the corner!

wow nice work! Do you still need measurements for the windshield supports? My 99 Super Sport has the same windshield I think so I can grab those specs for you next week if you want? Should be very similar even though mine is the V drive version of the same boat.
