SCM - 2006 Ski Nautique 206

My inboard boat restoration company, Silver Cove Marine, picked up this 2006 206 a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to document the restoration here.

Here's how it looked when we picked it up:

Oh, and the rudder had been pushed through the hull! No big deal, right???

Our team started by giving the outside a good cleaning. It cleaned up pretty well!

Then we moved on to the interior.

Yesterday evening, we put a battery in the boat and tried starting the engine. I am happy to report that it started right up! We only ran it for a moment because we didn't have any water running to it, but it was enough to prove that it runs!

Oh, and we were able to see the hours -- ONLY 159!! Woohoo!

Today, our crew removed all of the original decals and pinstripes, and prepared the boat for fiberglass and gelcoat work. The rudder area will be reglassed, and any chips and scratches will be addressed. The whole thing will be wet sanded, compounded, and buffed.

All of the new decals are here, along with new tracking fins, a throttle knob, gas cap, plug and port, oil filter, and FCC filter.

We also have a new shaft, prop, and strut on order. All underwater gear will be brand new.

We'll probably go ahead and do the engine maintenance next week, and then deal with the fiberglass and gelcoat work. Looking forward to getting it ready for the water!

I'll bet that prop wobbles a bit.

The previous owner converted it from a four-blade to a three-blade!

Interesting damage. Was the boat & trailer in a traffic incident where the boat did a 'dismount'?

Not sure what exactly happened. We spent a while Thursday night trying to figure it out, but never really came to any definite conclusion.

Certainly curious with all the residual mud left on the prop and rudder. You'd think if the event was in the water, that would have all washed away. The fact that it's still present suggests to me that whatever happened was land based.... The damage to the trailing edge of the prop is - I think - also in line with some sort ground contact. If that damage happened while under power the leading edge would be hit.

Guessing the boat didn't come with a trailer - that one looks too nice so I'm thinking that's one of yours? Did it even have one?

Hard for me to come up with any other explanation that somehow it hit dry ground pretty violently with the stern end sliding to the port...this rolled the prop backwards and folded in the rudder. Still thinking traffic accident. But then you'd think there would be some sort of markings on the port gunnel where the boat impacted the load guide...?

Guessing this was an insurance or bank sale item?

Love to see how the rudder box gets repaired. That's a real fix, not a cosmetic item like most all the other work you guys have done.

SilentSeven We've fixed some pretty major holes in boats before! You're right, this one didn't come with a trailer. That's kind of a funny story. I had a Ski Nautique / Sport Nautique trailer with the adjustable crash pad so that it would accept either boat. I had one of our guys do a quick refurbish on that one, including new wood steps, new carpet, and moving the crash pad. He got it done one day before I was leaving. The night before I left, I found a guy that was selling a 206 trailer about 100 miles from where I was picking this boat up! I couldn't pass that up, so I drove down to Alabama, picked up the trailer, spent the night, and then picked up the boat the next day, and then came home. The refurbished trailer that our guy worked on is sitting empty in my back yard right now.

And I agree that this damage was likely land-based. No water appears to have entered the boat. The engine is water-free, and there is no water line inside the boat. Even the bilge is clean.
