    tools needed for impeller change?

I'd like to change my impeller tomorrow on my 06 206. The boat is in storage.

Can anyone tell me what tools (socket sizes) I'll need to get the belt off and the impeller cover off? The PCM manual shows the belt tensioner is 15mm hex.

Also, I've seen discussion on putting the impeller in dry or lubed. What is the latest opinon on that? If lubed, what kind of lube?

The PCM book shows 9 ft lbs torque on the impeller fasteners. Does anyone know if this has been changed in a service bulletin?

from memory, i could be wrong:

i use a 12mm spanner for the cover, 14-or-15mm for the tentioner

impeller goes in dry, and usually comes back out looking the same after 100 hrs

Air Tool, do you have an Excalibur? If so all you need is a 6mm Allen wrench for the pulley cover, break those loose, then pull your belt, the tensioner can be done with an adjustable, IIRC a 5/8" wrench is loose so whatever the metric EQ of smaller should be the exact size, perhaps 15mm as you read. The Pump housing has 3 hex bolts, not positive but think they are 10-12mm. A little dish soap can be used to lube the impeller for install.

        Yes Excaliber 5.7.

Thanks for the help. I'll take those plus a couple up/down and some extensions. I mainly wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be Torx or something unusual.

I changed the impeller on my 06 5.7 today. It was simple and fast. You could do it in the parking lot if you had to. I think the impeller was about 25 bucks or so...can't remember.

tools = 15 mm to pull back the idler and remove the belt, 10 mm hex socket with short extension to get through pulley...not too long or you hit the clamshell, and a tad of grease for the o-ring. You don't need to remove the pulley from the pump housing.

Also, turn the pulley as you remove it and the impeller comes out with it. I couldn't pull it out with my finger...so I put the pully/shaft back in....slowly rotated and pulled the pulley/shaft out at a slight angle....the impeller came right out.

Torque on the three small bolts is 9 foot pounds (108 inch pounds) from the PCM book. I also applied ivory dish soap to the impeller as lube. I turned the pulley clock-wise as the impeller went in.

At least for the serpentine version...yes. They are not shown in the photo. They are sandwiched between the two cardboard pieces.

There are three o-rings to hold the bolts in and one o-ring for the housing.

you guys with the newer 206s with the serpentine belt have it so easy - on my 03, you have to take the raw water pump off the mouting bracket and pull the whole assembly out of the boat to change the impeller - a royal pain!
