Oil pan woes

I have made the mistake of ordering a 86 Bronco oil pan instead of the proper pleasure craft marine pan. It looks like the oil pump pick up will not fit inside the pan. If I get a bronco pickup will I have any problems. The engine application is an 87 Fish Nautique?

Cool, a Fish Nautique! I can't offer much help with your question, but post some pictures of that boat. That's one of my favorites.

sure didn't know after 63 years that there was a fish nautique, so sure wouldn't know about the oil pan. Boy jeff man how do you keep up with all the different boats?

You think the Fish Nautique is obscure, you should see the Bass Nautique - yeah, a Nautique bass boat with an outboard motor. Oh yes, it did exist.

Someone's got to know the answer to his question. Anyone?

Does anybody know where CC came up with the 2000 series numbers for the different models of boats back in the 80s? The Ski Nautique was a 2001, the Bass Nautique was 2018, etc. Where did they come up with these numbers and what do they stand for?

I saw an online ad last year for a one-of-a-kind twin engine fish nautique. It was built for one of the owners/family.

Man....was I tempted. But I didn't need it and it needed some work. Those twin engines were packed in there.

Go to the online used boat sites and search...they often show up.

depending what oil pump is in that motor you might want to just get a new pump while you're in there. If you get a pump to match your '86 bronco pan it will come with the appropriate pickup. That should ensure proper fit.

does the pan look just like the PCM pan? Bump in the right place? You might need a pan off a Towncar instead of a bronco if the pickup is in the wrong place. Try fitting the pan with the pickup pulled out.

Also, don't forget to double check the pickup's clearances in a pan. If the pickup is too close to the pan it'll starve the engine of oil.

if the bump in the pan is not in the rear all the way back then don't install that pan as it's wrong and your going to smoke the motor do to lack of oil flow. So anything that does not have a rear oil pump pick-up or a bump in the niddle or front of the pan isn't going to work

. If you have the old motor that was in the boat then use the old pan get new gaskets if needed. Remember these motors are at an angle so if the pick-up is in the middle or front of the pan then it's going to suck air and not oil unless you plan on idleing all of the time.

Another variation you might see is dipstick placement. Depending on the model year there might be a dipstick hole through the block. Or there will be a dispatch through the pan itself. You can tell this usually by the gasket.
