anyone tow with a 4runner?

The 3.0 liter V6 engine was not available in 99. There was a 3.4L V6 or a 2.7L I4.
The old 3.0 stopped being available in 95 or so when the 3.4 came out. That old 3.0 was anemic, I had a friend with an early 90s 4 runner and that thing was a dog even if not pulling anything.

I think if you have one with high ground clearance, that contributes to the sway.

I have a 98 4runner, manual and a 99 SAN with tandem trailer. It tows pretty well, even on the highway, but I'm in Florida where its super flat. Gas mileage drops like a rock at the slightest hill. Also make sure your brakes work well. I was towing a smaller ski boat last year (3000lbs wet, maybe) and there were several times I went into an intersection 'cause I couldn't stop. I didn't know any better and just thought it was because my 4runner was small. Now it stops fine with brakes that work, even though this boat is probably close to 4000lbs.
