i am pulling the tanks from my 01 san and putting in a custom ballat with sacs. it would be nice to use my guages for something. what if hooked up water pressure guages with the sender plumbed to the bottom of the sac, seems like a full sac would have some sort of water pressure to read.... or even better would be if i could make the senders hook up to the existing guages. is this impossible?

RE: Just a "what if" dream
It is possible from a controls standpoint but probably more trouble than it is worth. You would need a pressure transducer properly calibrated for the gauge. Sometimes things that can be done should not be done. I tend to learn this the hard way...

RE: Just a "what if" dream
Agreed... if the sacs are not totally buried in the boat, it takes 2 seconds and costs nothing to look at them and see if they're full. If they're inaccessible, I guess it's nice, but depending on their size, you can probably tell if they're full by observing the waterline on the hull. Not the cool way, but its fool proof and free. That being said, if they're rigid or could be made rigid somehow, you could use the same senders as in regular tanks, and just adjust them for the depth of the ballast "tank"...How 'bout a little reverse action...

What about a flow meter? Something with a paddle wheel to count the number of gallons pumped in or out. That could be converted to a clear representation of water level in the tanks once you knew how many gallons they can hold when full.
