    cold air only from heater

:?: anyone have any ideas on why my heater is not blowing hot air?
starting to get a little chilly, would appreciate some ideas on how to sort it out without a trip back to dealer

RE: cold air only from heater

Have you checked to see if water is getting to the heater core? They would be the red water lines. We are on vacation and I can't look at ours, but I believe the one line is connected at a brass fitting close to the intake manifold on top the motor. Not exactly sure where the other line hooks without being at the boat. Maybe there is a valve that closes off water to the core. No hot water to the heater core, means no heat. Follow those red water lines and see what you can find. BTW, the heater core is under the dash. If you had a disconnected line you would be taking on water. Good luck.

      thanks nautique210
i had a quick look today before work, found the red hoses going to the heater box, was hoping to find a stopcock/valve that was closed but didn't see any. is there a soleniod type valve that allows water to flow around the system when the fan is turned on? will have a better look again tomorrow

        Hi.
        There is no solenoid!
        The water is allways flowing.
What engine temperature are you running at? 165?
If yes try to increase engine rpm to 1800 and check if it gets hot. If yes you may have to change your impeller.
Normaly if you have a defective impeller you engine may overheat at idle, but I have the same problem and my engine don't overheat.
        Good luck!

Keep in mind the engine has to warm up (just like your car) before it will be hot. I find with my heater if I'm just idling or going very slowly the heater has minimal output since the flow rate is too low and with vdrives the water has much further to travel before it reaches the heat exchanger and hence it cools off along the way...

Double check that you don't have shutoff valves near the engine block just to make sure before you make the trek back to the dealer.

didn't find any shut off valves, took the heater hoses off the engine, there is no flow thru to heater box. next step to take hoses off at the box, is it possible that dust caps were not removed in install? or the box is blocked?

you took the lines off at the engine, and there was no flow? Or you took the lines off and couldn't flow water or air through them and into/out of the core?

the later, next step the hoses will have to come off the heater box and inspect the core, alittle more awkward due to the position, was hoping for easy solution

RE: cold air only from heater

found the problem, from the factory when the hull and the top of the boat were put together the heater hoses must have moved out of place and under the floor of the drivers seat, as a result the hoses are squashed flat and prevent hot water from getting to the heater box. tried to pull them out but they are to tight, will have to run new hoses. don't mind doing the work myself but wouldn't mind a bit of help with the cost
my dealer has gone into receiveship and of no help (600 miles plus to another dealer) will get in contact with correct craft to see if they will help out
