    What is it?

In the bilge of my boat, there is a loose gizmo (official technical term), about 2" diameter, that looks like a black plastic cup filled with epoxy with a black wire coming out the top. Nearby there's a round "glue mark" of epoxy on the hull. The boat has a depth finder in the dash, so I'm thinking the gizmo may be the "sender" unit for that. Soud likely? If it is, (a) what type of epoxy to reattach it with, and (b) can I place it back in the original spot, or should I find a new open space on the hull?

You can glue it back where it was. Try to use enough epoxy when you reglue it that there are not any air bubbles under it. you will have to clean the spot you glue it down very well, because chances are some oily water has washed over the spot where it was.

I still haven't fixed this... Yellow_Flash_Colorz: Is there a particular type of epoxy I should use, or will most any work?

plumbers putty is a good short term solution, if you do not have the time or desire to properly re-mount it mid season....
