Anybody out there know how to test the temp guage. If I run the temp pickup wire to earth, should this fullscale the gauge? Does the temp senders resistance increase or decrease with increasing temperature?

Higher temperature, less resistance.
The GT-40 service manual in available on this site. Down load it, it contains this information, and lots of other stuff you will probably ask in the furure -

I was trying to get to the bottom of the temp problem this morning and after a few tests I am definately getting a low reading from my temp gauge. If I place the sender in a jug of boiling water the gauge is recording a temp of 155 - 160F.
Anybody with any knowledge of what to replace first? Sender or gauge?Loch Lomond: Scotland

find the sender
pull wire off of it
turn key on
touch wire to engine block
sender should read full hot
if it bounces around or does not read full, bad sender
