Any suggestions for cleaning the carpet in a '97 SN196?

I've always used regular Tide (no bleach) in a bucket with warm water. Soak the carpet with water, then work the soapy water in with a brush. Afterwards, pressure wash all the nasty into the bilge and let it dry in the sun (or put lots of fans on it in the garage).
Most recently, on advice of a trusted source, after rinsing it, I sprayed a mixture of fabric softener and water on the carpet because it supposedly increased the fluff on the 10 year old carpet nap. I don't think it really did all that much for fluffing up old carpet (or maybe I erred on the light side with the fabric softener), but either way, my carpet has never smelled so good.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

I did a search on here about cleaning carpet. I tried several things with my past boat and with my SANTE and the best thing I found is deluted simple green and pressure washer. I couldn't believe how new the carpet looked after. the simple green will break up stains and the pressure washer cleans the carpet and makes the fibers stand back up. You will have to start at the bow and slowly comb towards the stern. Don't stop with one trip through. Do it about 4 or 5 times. After it drys you will be amazed.

I have used the pressure washer too, a couple of things to consider: 1) don't get too close with the nozzle you can hurt the carpet glue 2) try to put your boat on a hill/slant so the water can drain out of the bilge 3)spray with water until you see the water go from dirty to clear 4) finally take out your drain plug so it can all drain!

On the Simple Green, be sure to dilute. I don't know if they fixed that product, but in the old days when it first came out (circa 1984 was my first exposure) the full strength concentrate would stain some materials....even if you immediatly got on it with water. If you use it full strength on anything, be sure to wet what you are cleaning first and have the water hose ready.

Originally posted by skiswmThanks AirTool, that's what I meant before cleaning have the plug out so you can watch the water drain. You'll need to see the color of the water to know when the carpet is "clean."
