My first boat ride of the seasion, my GT40 is overheating, like the thermostat is sticking. I winterized it myself. Drained all water, antifrz filled motor, etc. Before launching, I installed a new impeller. I have now replaced the t stat 160. It still overheats very quickly. The water seems to flow through the exaust, so I'm pretty sure the impeller is pumping. Any suggestions??? Thanks

RE: 05 Super Sport Overheating Problem
It may be sucking water but only for a short time (loses prime).
Is it getting so hot that it goes into limp mode or just runs a little hot?
Check hoses making sure clamps are tight
Check o-ring on strainer
Make 100% sure there is no air leak
Make sure the Raw water Pump is not sucking air (remove pump, put your hand on the discharge end sealing it tight and blow or suck into the intake side to make sure the pump is air tight).
Good Luck!

RE: 05 Super Sport Overheating Problem
Most likely a vacuum problem. Check what jward says. If the thermostat stucks the engine won't overheating that fast... Check the o-ring on the strainer and make sure the strainer is tight...230 with ZR6 running on propane

RE: 05 Super Sport Overheating Problem
Thanks guys. You were close. It turns out that the new impeller got chewed up. I replaced it, flushed the debries out, and it's working like normal. I am troubled as to why that would have happened. When I installed it, I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly, spun it in in the correct direction, sprayed it with wd 40 and seemed to spin freely. I did start the boat very very briefly before launching, I'm talking 5 to 10 sec. Do you think that could have done it?

2. There will be many opinions on running the impeller dry. My opinion is don't...not even for 5 seconds. I don't care if your neighbor or brother-in-law does it every trip with great success.
3. Try loooobing up your new impeller with liquid ivory or dawn soap. Very slippery, stays in there until you run it....then washes out without polluting.
