    Water pump bearings gone bad

I have a 96 SN and I noticed when winterizing that the bearings in the raw water pump have gone bad. The shaft is loose, wobbles, and leaks. Can I order a rebuild kit for this? Or are the bearings something I can get at a local parts store? A tag on the pump says it a Sherwood G21 SHC. Thanks.

SkiDim has new water pumps for the Ford 351. The water pump belt should be "snug" but not as tight as you can get it with a long pry bar.

A power transmission/bearing supply will have the bearings as well as the shaft seal.

That is still less than three tanks of gas in the boat.

8122pbrainard is right. These can be rebuilt at a fraction of the cost of a new one. If you want a new one, here is a better price.....

Update....I have mine repaired. The bearings were $4.97 each at a local store and the pump takes 2 of them. The seal was $13.28 and the gasket around $2.50 at a Nautique dealer. I already had a new impeller and o-ring so it only cost me about $25 to rebuild this pump. Thanks for your help!

I'm sure glad it worked out for you. The $25 sure is less than the $300!! It's also better than rebuilding the old and buying a new one as suggested. What would you have done with a spare pump?? Buy a spare boat?? Some people must not care about saving a few dollars.

Yes honey, I have everything loaded in the truck including the spare pump, alternator, battery, fuel filter, fuel pump, belt, hoses, transmission, and full set of 10 over pistons. Nope, no room for the mother-in-law.

I'm sure glad you have the money to keep every spare part available that you may have go bad. Some of use don't! You might as well keep a spare engine too. I've seen them sieze as well. Do you have a spare engine?

yes got about 10 blocks sitting on the side
waiting for a boat with no motor, LOL

i always keep spare, plugs, cap, rotor, impellers, belts in the boat
you never know what could happen to it or somebody on the water

i grew up on the pacific ocean, i have seen more than my fair share of stuff go wrong, including losing forward gear right next to Pt Bonita

Richie, The 10 blocks are they yours or are they Adams your marina owner? If they are your's, you certainly have the luxury of tieing up lots of money. No kids? No college tuition?
Sure glad I don't boat on the Pacific (and searay) - souds like you really have it rough.
