Trailer - Backup Solenoid Problem

I have an intermittant problem with my backup solenoid which prevents me from backing the trailer. It is a DHM trailer with a UFP solenoid and the trailer has disc brakes. The DHM folks think it is the ground wire and suggest adding a second ground wire and tweaking the connection posts. I also ordered a brake lockout cap. Has anyone experienced this problem and can you suggest a wiring or another solution to try?

yes run another ground off the solenoid to brake master cylinder
