This is how I test the ignition system on my GT-40. This will help you find out if the primary side of your ignition system is good.
The little spark gap thing you see in the picture is available at Auto zone.
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT SMELL ANY GAS WHEN DOING THIS TEST. THIS CREATES AN OPEN SPARK WHICH CAN IGNITE ANY GAS FUMES PRESENT!
You should see a very strong and steady spark, that has a constant rhythm when the engine is cranking.
This does not test the cap, rotor, spark plug wires, or spark plugs. They could still be bad.
